Dear 9 mm or 0.354ers

BLI's Marketeer sent out a blurb on the USRA Light & Heavy Mikados and Pacifics, PRR H32 Covered Hopper and N&W H2a Hoppers.

I've been in N Scale since 1964 and NEVER heard anyone refer to themself as a 9mmer or 0.354er....at least not in North America.

Are any of you 9 mm or 0.354ers?

Maybe those are the folks who think MILW, UP, C&O, and CP had H32 hoppers?

I was left scratching my head over that one as well, Charlie.  I almost went right past it in my email, assuming when I saw 9mm that it was European, because they do occasionally use "9mm gauge" and similar nomenclature. Personally, I prefer "N scale modeler" over "N scaler" and either of those over "N gauger".  I find all the 'clever' names that HO scale companies dream up for the customers in their secondary (ie- N scale) market a little condescending.

But then, I found most of that mailer pretty condescending- I have no complaint over Christmas paint schemes, but half of that mailer was complete foobies. I guess they need all those foobie hoppers to run behind the foobie Mikados, and foobie P-70s to run behind the foobie Pacifics.

Marketing ala 1970.

No need for 4 numbers of ATSF either. The real G24 had offset sides. Now, why they are honest for some fantasy roads and list them as fantasies, but list other fantasy schemes (ATSF, C&O) with N&W as correct, when they aren't, I have no explanation.
from the mailer:
Quote
N&W-7 roadnumbers, PRR, B&O-4 roadnumbers, ATSF 4-roadnumbers, C&O-4 roadnumbers,  Chessie 4-roadnumbers

Fantasy Schemes: WM 4-roadnumbers, Con. Appalachian 4-roadnumbers, Con. P&L 4-roadnumbers, Peabody 4-roadnumbers, Christmas 2 paintschemes

The real ATSF Ga24 is NOT a H32 either. The listing of some fantasy roads as "fantasy" and other fantasy roads as accurate, is deceptive. I don't have objection to importers having cars painted in schemes the car never wore, but I expect them to be honest about it.

This.

9 mm is "HOn30" or "HOn2 1/2."
