Micro-trains for April 2022

And I may have to get one of these sets- an old friend of the family was in one of the units in West Germany that was equipped with this unusual ordinance:
https://www.micro-trains.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4431

I might well have bought the set even without the cannon, to get 4 EJ&E flatcars.

In the Micro-trains News, these are described as 45' flatcars.  Are these new and different from the long serving MTL 50' cars?  Or did I just miss there being a 45' flatcar in the past?

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

The weathered stuff is simply jaw-dropping.  :o  Every time I think they've peaked, they find a way to get even better. @MTLJoe , amazing!

That D&RGW car is a looker. Wow.

Can anyone give some info on the yellow moron marks? Are they from the modern era, or older?

Also, that L&N boxcar is gorgeous as well. I've got to avoid more 40' cars though. If it were 10' longer I'd be in trouble.

I'm not complaining. I'm sure there will be something next month that I must have.

I'm putting the 40' cars by the run down roundhouse under demolition as MOW storage

The Rock Island blue 100 ton hopper runner pack is interesting.  Those cars were built by Greenville Steel Car Company in 1978.  They were only on The Rock for two years, then quite a few of them were bought by the Bessemer and Lake Erie and became their class HT53 hoppers.  The BLE painted out the logo and reporting marks with baby blue paint and added BLE reporting marks.  Not a hard thing to do modeling wise.  They spent the next forty plus years hauling iron ore, coke and coal for the Bessemer & Lake Erie RR and Union RR.  They frequently ended up on Conrail, Chessie and N and W hauling those items to non Pittsburgh area steel plants.  I cannot see MTL doing a Bessemer version, so I may have to do them myself.  So tempting.

You can't?  Seems like a perfect candidate for an 8 pack weathered release.

I have zero interest in those examples.  Too new / out of my era.  I am looking for early 80’s Bessemer baby blue paint outs.  I have photos on my computer.  Cars that would be present in the 1984 version of Conrail trains USS (unit coke Clariton to Gary) and UOH (unit coal Ontario Hydro).  Not those monstrosities.  I will consider rolling my own.  Thanks.

I just saw a video of them in use on an ore train on the high line from South Philly. I was like "huuuuuh?". But it made sense.

They would be on the High Line in Philadelphia hauling coke for USS from Clariton to Fairless.  I do not recall the Conrail train symbol, maybe USF.  There is a photo of this train in the Conrail Commodities book, in the Steel and Metals section.  If they were hauling ore, I would think it would be train ZSR, unit iron ore Philadelphia Greenwich Pier to South Rankin (USS Edgar Thompson Plant Braddock, PA - a mile or so south of Rankin).  That was a sight to see going west over the mountain.  16000 ton iron ore train versus 1.85% grade.  48 traction motors in eight six axil locomotives.  Music to my ears.  Thanks.
