Great scene!  The WS pickup is based on a 1955-56 Chevy Cameo Carrier, but missing the grille.

Edit:  Without the grille, the WS pickup could also be used to represent a 1957 Cameo Carrier.  Although the 1957 Cameo had trim panels on the pickup box, which the the WS model is also missing.

Madabutcars on Shapeways recently started offering a number of variations on the 1957 Cameo, including step-side, extended bed, and tool box.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Carter:  And Thank You, for the compliment and the information.  I'll assume it's a 1957 Chevy, as I model 1974, and by that time, the trim panels may have fallen, or been taken, off.  Farm/work trucks don't get much care.  I wonder why WS left the grille off?  It couldn't have been that hard, or expensive, to include.

That is a good question!  WS also left the grille off of the HO model of the pickup, (https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/AS5534), but included it on the HO model of the 1955-56 dump truck according to the images shown of the WS website (https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/AS5550).

The N scale models are not licensed by GM, so leaving the grille off might have been an attempt to avoid a conflict with GM.  However, GM will now license N scale model vehicles of this size as long as they are marketed to the "adult" collector market, rather than as a toy for children.    :?

After five months of repairs and revisions to backdrops, track, wiring and turnout control, the first sections of the layout are back up on the wall in the new layout room:

The support work for the Fort St. John Subdivision extension is also taking shape, seen here sitting in place after painting:

Hi Tim:
Been meaning to ask you about the wiring at Chetwynd. Where did you find those wire holders / clips with the square drive screws? They are just what I am looking for.

Kind regards,
Bill

If you are referring to the nylon cable clamps, those came from Rona (our local hardware store) and they are secured in place with #8 screws.  If needed I can post a photo of the packages.

Andrew and Bryan:  great freight car builds!

Tim

100% agree.  Really great work.  Having used the Walthers shell for my own kitbash I really appreciate what Andrew has done.  Bryan's 3D work is terrific as usual.  Projects keep popping up and the ensuing thought process ends with "A 3D printer would be the perfect solution here."  One of these days . . . . .

Nate, I’m really enjoying your L&N head-end cars.  I never got the baggage and mail equipment I wanted in N, mostly from not trusting my skills with what few good kits were still available.  Stumbling across a beautiful B60b in Large-scale was a big part of what convinced me to switch from N.

My weekend is full of short little rolling stock jobs.  Metal wheel upgrades, shortening or replacing couplers, minor detailing, etc.  Better photos to follow later, but here’s one of a USA Trains reefer with new wheels and couplers, in front of that B60b scratchbuilt by some unknown modeler far more skilled than me.

In WWII, the Milwaukee Road rebuilt 50' single sheathed boxcars into excess height, steel sided cars to carry bomber parts.  Following the war they were re-rebuilt back into standard height cars.  I thought I would scratch some sides to fit into the Walthers auto boxcar in an attempt to represent these.  I had two pictures and no drawings but I think I got close.

Got Close!

Mike:  Yes, although the town's "history" is more complicated than one might think.  J.R.R Tolkien didn't invent the name Moria.  He said he chose the name, years before writing his famous books, after hearing it in a poem.  Also, there's a town in Greece named Moria, which has been there for centuries, and one in South Africa, about which I know nothing.  Since Tolkien was born in South Africa, that might also have influenced him.

In any case, my claim is that the town was named in the late 1800s, probably by a Greek prospector.  Many of his Hobbit surnames came from the Lexington/Georgetown Kentucky area, and can still be found there today.  He got those from a student he met at college, and liked them enough to use them.  So why not place names from Montana?

You'll find other Middle Earth names on my railroad, but again, every one has a logical explanation, so those who aren't Tolkien fans won't find them unusual.

PawPaw State Bank is nearingcompletion on the Hi Rail rig.

 Primed...

Painted and in place.  Entry door and interior details forthcoming.  Then lighting and sidewalks.  Once the pharmacy on the corner is built, the roadway can be installed.

Put some finishing touches this weekend on an early 90's Amtrak FL9, added front nose notch cutouts for 480V cables, replaced the super thick factory grabs, replaced the Hancock Air Whistle with a K5LA, cut out the numberboards for lighting, roof strobes, marker lights, rear dual 36' HEP fans and dual exhaust.

I finished another n scale car for my L&N "Pan American" this afternoon.  This is a "foobie" in that the car never existed on the real railroad, but I thought the first class passengers could use somewhere on the train to hang out when not in their compartments.

This car started as a Kato Club-Lounge from their "20th Century Limited" set.  I stripped the car, repainted it (Modelflex B&O Royal Blue and Wabash Grey), and lettered it with decals from www.greatdecals.com and Microscale.  Turned out to be a sharp looking car.  :)
