In WWII, the Milwaukee Road rebuild 50' single sheathed boxcars into excess height, steel sided cars to carry bomber parts. Following the war they were re-rebuilt back into standard height cars. I thought I would scratch some sides to fit into the Walthers auto boxcar in an attempt to represent these. I had two pictures and no drawings but I think I got close.
Outstanding work Andrew!
Finished the Erie radial roof USRA rebuilt boxcar. In 1947, Erie rebuilt 75 USRA single-sheathed boxcars with sheet metal sides, Youngstown steel doors and radial roofs. The original cross bracing was left in place, adding to the prototype’s unique look.
I could use a couple of those. Obviously you had to change from wood side to steel side but what all did you do to it? I assume that this is an Atlas car that you modified but none of mine have the proper door or roof.
. . . a WS pickup (whatever it's supposed to be, there IS a prototype for it) . . .
