I really miss Dull-Cote.
Ed - there seems to be a lot of it still for sale on Amazon...

I don't know why I didn't think about that.

I have now added a 4 pack to the cart.

Thanks!

This is interesting:

Testors is owned by Rustoleum, so this appears to be the same exact stuff

If it is the same it's a much bigger can.

Later in that thread I posted several have said they tried it (and also the Krylon) and found it seemed thicker than Testors brand.

Menards down the road has it so I'll try. Thing I've always said about Dullcote it that it didn't really matter how thick you put it on because it just disappears.

Can confirm!  In my own modeling incompetence, I've accidentally applied Dullcote too heavy, but, thankfully, once it dried, it did cure without excessive build up.

Well, when I was in HO scale, I applied Dullcote either too heavy or in too cold of temp and ended up with a severe, large orange peel texture. So, it can be applied poorly. That said, it is pretty forgiving stuff.

I received two 2'x4' Masterpiece Module kits, and am very happy with what I have seen of the kit so far.

l am really pleased with Masterpiece’s benchwork kits. Light, easy to assemble, and easy to move. Casters would be nice.

I have to say that I am not impressed with Tamiya Flat Clear as a Dullcote replacement. It's not nearly as "flat" as it claims.

(Attachment Link)

My understanding is that Tamiya flat clear - at least the enamel version - is meant to be mixed with a glossy paint so as to impart a matte finish effect to the mixture.

Hi Lee, it's a 3 pole skew wound Mabuchi almost identical to what is in a Bachmann White Box 4-8-4 Northern, It's quiet and no ozone smell like the Bachmanns, better response all for $2.26 NZD + a couple of bucks postage from Aliexpress in China.
Lee,
Is that the same Mabuchi I'm using in my Rivarossi motor rebuilds?
This thing?  If so, that's a darn solid motor.

Hi Max,
Yes the very same motor!!! I've got two versions 21000 rpm and 28000 rpm according to the vendor.

Painted up a window stripe on an N scale Kato 10-6 sleeper today. I used Badger Model Flex NH Re/Orange.  This is a stand-in for McGinnis era 14-4 "Point" series sleeper.  After a clear coat dries, I will apply some square cuts of styrene for the heralds centered above the trucks, and then I will apply Microscale decals.  I touched up the overspray on the ends (where the tape was layered) with the easy motion of a toothpick, with great success.  This is good project to get me in the mood to do more painting.

Yep, those 14-4 Budd cars are a big gap in available N scale passenger cars.  I have some Union Station plastic sides for one, but it is a hard conversion, because the top roomette windows actually go up into the fluted roof piece, and those "sides" don't quite go there.

I keep hoping Kato will make an RTR model before I start trying to kitbash one of those to make a B&O "bird" sleeper.

Edit:   :facepalm:Ooops.  Confused 14-4s with the 16-4s.  It is the 16-4s  that have the upper and lower windows.  I have sides for both, but am not yet ready to try to use them.  It is the 16-4s that were the B&O "bird" sleepers.
