Making progress on the RBB&B stock cars. Stepping sanded out of the roofs and all grab irons added.

Exterior details and weathering added to the Henry Clay.

The first floor windows on the right side are pretty large and I wanted to add some sort of interior detailing. Just some basic shapes. I’m picturing a first floor restaurant. I wanted easy and inexpensive tables, but I don’t have any CAD skills or a 3D printer, but I do have a table saw and push pins, so:

I may file them down some to make them shorter.

I mocked up the revised Goodyear Plant #2 layout.  Should work better than the original plan.  More in the AC&Y LE thread.

Getting started on the new station for the hopefully soon to be layout.  A while back I put up a thread looking for ideas to make cutting windows easier, and @Lemosteam suggested using a drafting board to speed things along.  As it happens, from the days before computers, I had a portable drafting board that I haven't used for years- made things much easier.
So, this is step 1 of about 150 steps- cut out the north wall segments from NScale Architect brick sheet, and getting a start on the tower.

And yes, it's Dearborn in Chicago.  Need a home for my passenger trains.  Lots of compromises and approximations, but hoping it evokes the real station when complete.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

I wonder how many old Arnold/Rapido FAs have gotten a new life as PC 1350 in the last few years?  I replaced the wheels on mine and chose 1350 for the two-color herald.

Milled a later model Bachmann F9 frame to take a new motor. The motors brush caps are isolated from the frame ready for a decoder. Please excuse the blurry shot - still getting used to my new phone. :D

No modeling, but hopefully that will change soon.  Haven't done anything constructive in close to a month.  Worked 40 out of last 45 days or so.  When I'm home, i don't feel like doing anything, and before I know it, yep, time to go to work again.

Went to Timonium today with a list and came home with nothing on the list.  Kinda sucks when you got money to spend and can't find the couple things you're looking for. Did grab a couple cars and a TrainWorx mid-roof Cascadia for my bulk cement trailers.  All I have are high-roof versions.  Need a couple more mids.  So the search will continue for my wants....

I did the decaling on my HOn3 D&RGW Jordan Spreader OU this week.  One thing I learned a while back from watching military model build videos is a lot of guys use Future Floor Wax as a gloss coat.  It has since become Pledge Floor Gloss, but it's the same thing.  Same SKU number.  It's a great substitute for any hobby brand acrylic gloss coat.  You spray it straight from the bottle and it cleans up with tap water.   I applied the decals after letting the gloss coat dry for a of couple days.  Not really much in the way of lettering on this thing.  The kit didn't come with decals, so I had to find my own.  The "D&RGW" on the deck house sides came from a San Juan Decals D&RGW 30' Reefer set left overs.  The "OU" came from a Microscale Railroad Roman lettering set.  The solid black decals under the service dates of the air tank on the back deck and above the trucks came from left over black striping.  And the white service dates are left overs from a San Juan Decals D&RGW 3000 Series Boxcar set.  Now on to weathering . . .

Wow, great work Erik. I notice some texture in the paint on some of the ‘steel’ surfaces. I don’t know if it was intended or accident, but to my eyes (that spent summers repainting heavily used tug boats here on the west coast) it looks exactly like rusted steel that has been ‘scaled’ and repainted. In salt water it would start rusting again the next day, but in the dry Colorado air you may have more time…

Progress on two fronts so far this weekend.

First, got track down with feeders for this end of the yard.

And then did some work on the two patch jobs on my workbench.

That was a happy coincidence.  The white metal parts in this kit were from molds that are quite old.  So the casting weren't very crisp.  I was a little irritated with that, but was pleasantly surprised with the old 'steel' look that the metal parts have when painted.  I also like that the wooden deck house, made from laser cut plywood, has a real wood texture to it as well.  Of course the model in these photos is shown significantly larger than the real model.  After  3 1/2 months working on this, I'm a little nervous to weather it.  Don't want to screw it up at this late stage!
