This might be my favorite part of Virtual Railfan: getting to see stuff you'd almost otherwise never catch.

Best part is honestly the dude living his best life with that drifting bobcat.

Hahahaha, it absolutely is.

2nd best part is:
Step 1 - string of empty centerbeams
       Step 2 - hilarity ensues

What was the large boom at the beginning, like 10 second mark ?

Another thing about the bobcat operator.  He obviously sees the aftermath/ending of the derailment, he just spins around and goes about his snow clearing duties.  " Nope, not doing it.  Not dealing with that today.  Way beyond my pay grade"

total guess...

The Boom is something happening towards the head end that is causing or caused by the head end to slow down quickly.

The empty centerbeams derail outward on the curve, suggesting they are getting squeezed between the (slowing) front of the train and the heavier cars behind them.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

It's almost like centerbeam flats, designed for use in 5000' trains, don't do so well in 10,000' monsters.

Who'd have thunk it?

RAILmishaps is a groups.io list to post any rail related things like derailments and crashes, such as this Santa Fe Jct Detailment. (Already posted there.)

But it’s not a place for chatting or carrying on conversations.

I thought that "detailments" were when some modeler goes overboard in their super-detailing efforts.  :D

It's more a matter of what happens when you build trains to minimize switching instead of building them for safe train handling.

Here is a longer version of the wreck and the cleanup .. Bobcat guy finishes plowing -- then spreads salt over the parking lot .. not a care in the world :)

I added them to my list of groups. Blew up my email, had turn that back. Worldwide coverage.

Yeah, one guy dumped 16 posts in 36 minutes, today.  No videos of crashes or derailments, but some video of idiots going around crossing gates as train blows horn.

If this keeps up, I will go to a single digest per day.  But, nothing else was posted all day, today.
