Brake Sound - Loksound v5 Micro

New to ESU stuff and I need someone to tell me how to activate the brake squeal sound in the v5 Micro decoder.  I searched the instruction manual, all 120 pages of it, and I couldn't find anything related to this.  I'm sure it must be one of the CV's but I just can't find it.  Any help is appreciated.

Doug,

Do not feel like the lone ranger here. I too have not found anything in manuals regarding the brake squeal and I have been fooling around with ESU for several years, so I too am interested in the input you receive. I don't know if it is a translation issue when putting out manuals in the English language or what.

Be well,
Carl

If the brake squeal is part of the installed sound project, then you should be able to get it to play.

Not sure if you will be able to access this informative thread without being a member of the group.  It talks about independent brake and also automatic squeal.  https://groups.io/g/Loksound/topic/88069105 . I also highly recommend joining that Loksound group. There are many knowledgeable members there willing to help (including several TRW members).

Here is an excerpt from that thread:
From the LokSound 5 manual:

13.4. Adjusting the braking sound threshold
The LokSound decoder is able to play a wheel-synchron brake
sound. To play a brake sound, Damit das Bremsgeräusch abge-
spielt wird, there are several conditions necessary:
•The braking time in CV 4 is set sufficiently high (at least value 20
or higher).
•The loco drives with high speed at the time of the braking com-
mand.
•The loco receives the driving command “Speed step 0”.
The LokSound decoder will now start to play the braking sound at
the time determined in CV 64. The higher the value in CV 64 is,
the sooner the braking sound will be played. The default value 100
is approximately equivalent to speed step 48 of 128.
The braking sound should and when the loco stopps. You are able
to do some “finetuning” with CV 65, if the loco stopps too early.

I found that the the brake sound is activated as soon as deceleration is added (CV 4 greater than 1). Brake sound volume is CV259 (0-128) with CV32 set to 2.

peteski,

thanks for the heads up, I am a member of that LS group and checked out your link. I have not done so yet but will as I think George Hofmann's solution will work for me.

thanks again, be well,

You're welcome Carl.  If you belong to that group, login into the Web interface and search for "brake squeal".  There are several matching threads that pop up. I just quoted info from one of those.

Thanks again Pete,

I messed around with CV's 64 & 65 last night and yes brake squeal. I am going to fool around with George's  f8 & f10 set up and see what happens.

Be well!

I don't own a Lok programmer so I guess I'm out of luck.  And, on my unit F8 is already being used to turn the sound on and off from the factory.

Why?  The CVs mentoned can be changed, just like in any other decoder on the programmign track, or even on the main (POM).  Also, if you use JMRI with your DCC system, that is almost as good as having LokProgrammer as far as customizing the decoder's settings.

If no JMRI, the other alternative is to load the LokProgrammer program onto your computer (no LokProgrammer hardware is required), then load the same sound project file which is installed on the decoder, make whatever modifications you need in the LokProgrammer program, then ask it to give you list of modified CVs and their values, which then you can manually program those values into the decoder using standard programming track, or even using POM.
