Kato SD70M N scale MTL couplers?

:?  MTL conversion guide suggests 2004-1 (001 02 052) but removing the Kato coupler clip and doing simple change out, the locomotive coupler over rides the MTL freight car coupler.  This is on the latest Kato SD70Ms coupling to the latest MTL freight cars.  When Kato reintroduced these, I couldn't resist, and I also had to add the MTL Espee gondola with load to my order.  I noted that a used Kato SD70MAC acquired years ago, had MTL 1015-1 (001 02 003) screwed on.  I did the same with my UP Kato SD70M that I ordered Fall 2021.  On that UP SD70M, the MTL 1015-1 rides a shade low after much filing. I also had to shorten the MTL slot screw to keep from messing up the Kato ditch lights. However, it functions flawlessly.  On my new Kato SD70M that came in the mail from Trainworld this week, I experimented and used a shortened pair of MTL 1025-1 (was 1023, 001 02 009) couplers.  I had to file about 1/8th inch (about 3 CM) from the non functioning end in order to clear the Kato trucks.  Believe it or not, this works very well with the couplers aligning perfectly.  It would be really nice if Kato and MTL interfaced as well as MTL couplers do to Atlas diesels!  Here are a few photos.  Just don't waste money or time trying to convert Kato SD70 series to MTL 2004-1 couplers.  [The 2004-1 is the coupler on the top right of the bottom photo showing the bottoms of the SD70Ms. You will note that the housing 2004-1 is not as wide as that on the 1015-1 which needs much filing on the SD70 body.  The 1025-1 (formerly 1023) is much skinnier.]

Glad that worked for you.  I've been putting 1015 shanks in 2004 boxes.
