Springtime or summertime.  Still have to finish all of the roof detail.  Might 3D-print the brick portions of the REA/USPS building first.

l can be patient. I have my own structure dreams, though they get fuzzy when I try to imagine how the parts are connected and linked. Seeing where someone’s attempts stand or fall seems to make all the difference.

FYI, I tried the ABS resin today. It’s flexible, about halfway between a rubber type material and the standard rigid material. It needs another half-second per slice layer to print. I see how it could work with car and locomotive bodies, but I’m going to stick with the standard resin for buildings.

How was the detail compared to the regular stuff?

Seems to be the same.  But I'll know for sure when the latest models get some paint.  It's also more susceptible to abrasions before it's cured, so care must be taken in handling the parts during the cleaning phase.

With the latest conversations revolving around printing quality and printing supports, I realized that my best successes are the models that are printing vertically as they have all the cross support needed in the actual model.  The circus stockcars were perfect due to the floor and roof fully integrated with the body.  There's no reason why that method can't be utilized with regular freight equipment.  With that knowledge, I'm yet again going to try to render the New York Central canstock boxcar that I've been trying to make a good model of for over a decade using various mediums.  This time, I've integrated the Keystone floor/underframe from the X58 into the body.  The extended draft gear coupler pockets are now part of the ends.  One of the last problems I was having had to do with the stirrups.  I redesigned the ends to accept Micro-Trains stirrups from the ACF 25000-series model, as they are correct for this prototype as well.  They will (theoretically) slide in and snap in place before the ends are cemented in place. These pics are of the finished components. I'm going to try to configure the print file today, but it may wait until later this coming week as I have some other projects I want to move along and'/or wrap up.  The body will print vertically, while the ends will print at a 45-degree angle to try to avoid pillowing on any of the surfaces.

@SkipGear Tony, I ordered this off Amazon last night. It won’t be here for a few weeks but I have other things to keep me occupied in the interim.  8)   This supposedly produces crystal clear results with no yellowing. I’m going to try printing the windows flat and see what happens. This will open the door to multiple projects if it works. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive, and the negative reviews refer to things that aren’t relevant to rendering windows.

I look forward to learning of your success. If the ribs are sufficient, could even a comparatively smooth planar surface - like a structure wall - be printed so long as there is sufficient interior ribbing?

No ribbing is needed because the body contour is constant through the entire build.  The end profile you see in the screenshot above is the same throughout.  The fact that the sides, roof and floor are integrated as one part provides all the structure needed.

NYC canstock boxcar is ready to print.  I'm too tired to start this now, will set it up to print in AnyCubic aqua resin overnight tomorrow.

On that frame, the air tank on the left approximately under the door, will that need some additional support from the build plate end?  It seems like it would start to print unsupported.

Bryan -- once the car prints, please post some detail pix of the "membrane" end ..

I will add a support to both the auxiliary reservoir and the triple valve. I have no doubt other supports will be necessary but I’ll see what results I get on the first attempt.
