I’ve been painting my former SAL station in small steps, and I’ll hopefully have some photos worth viewing soon.  In the meantime, I’m relettering Seaboard Air Line GP9 No. 1900 to Seaboard Coast Line No. 1053, just like the prototype.  This was called the Split Image Scheme, and, post-merger, many SAL engines looked like this until repainted into the standard SCL black and yellow scheme.

Santa put this in the mailbox on Christmas eve.

Had to repair one truck, and it still needs a good dusting.  But it is a welcome addition to the Oversize Load collection within the Retro Fleet.

If it's from Aurora, I suspect that it's Trix.  Aurora's "Postage Stamp Trains" typically sold Minitrix models.

Santa should have blown the sawdust off before putting it under the tree.  8)

Finally getting to the major “sort” of all of my train stuff.
What I will keep and what I am planning to sell.

@hegstad1 came over last week and we extracted all the boxes that looked like there were structures or kits in them. Moved all of that into my office as a staging area and I sorted through stuff during the daylight hours this weekend.

Wowsers.
This is a glimpse of what I intend to disposition….

Now I have to decide HOW to sell all of this stuff. Send it to N scale supply, eBay, FB marketplace, or the trading post. I have a lot more to go through with rolling stock, motive power, books, photos and slides, etc…

Exciting stuff. And it is finally focusing me on what I will be doing in the hobby.
2022 should put me in a new house and I’ll get my train room back!

Best regards,
Michael

I'd suggest a week here, and whatever doesn't sell, move on the sale groups on FB.  eBay I'd save for last resort

I would say they fall under "both". And I do plan to model both the "cow pies" and the manure pile (being loaded into a truck).

A smoke generator could add some humor .  in fact I haven't seen them used at all for special effects in n scale . eg ash pits , garbage piles , Santa Chutes both residential and commercial , hobo camps , etc .

Finally finished a project that I've been working on for way too long, a new video:
Among other things the star of the show developed an issue that took a couple of weeks to figure out.  The video is a lot longer than I wanted but gives a good idea of how operations work on the layout.

Very cool!  Is the whole layout dedicated to coal operations?

NtheBasement, that is quite a mechanical accomplishment.  And the scenery is really good, too.  The video does give the flavor of the old film features explaining to the public how things worked, albeit without the baritone over-voicing by a guy telling us what we are seeing.

I watched the whole video.  It is quite long - good thing you pay time-and-a-half.  ;)  For me, seeing your layout was another added interest, beyond seeing the coal operations.  But, it would help me get others to watch it if you could cut it to maybe a little under 10 minutes.

I have the video bookmarked to show people and share. I am betting you get an amazing number of views - at least considering you didn't include any Kardashians.

Whale belly cement cars.  I finished a few months ago three of the whale belly cement cars by Kaslo. I found them an interesting build and pretty easy to complete. It took about an hour each.  I used Poly Scale camouflage gray for the main color. I really didn't do much weathering at all. Perhaps later i'll dirty them up some.  MT body mount couplers and roller bearing trucks are purchased separately.
The cars all track very well and it doesn't matter where i place them in a 36 car train they seem to ride along nice. I may make a few more down the road sometime.
