Pretty sure Milwaukee Road did that in the good old days !
Must be fun to get in that moving train with a couple of pieces of luggages .... :D

PRR trains changed from electric to diesel/steam at Harrisburg and Washington, DC. 
New Haven trains changed from electric to diesel/steam at New Haven. 
New York Central trains changed from electric to diesel/steam at Croton Harmon. 
Amtrak train 43/44 changes from electric to diesel at Philadelphia.
B&M trains changed from steam to electric at Hoosac Tunnel.
Milwaukee Road over the mountains as noted.
New Jersey Transit (Jersey Coast?) trains change from electric to diesel at Newark Penn and they do it without changing locomotives (pans are lowered, prime mover powers up).
Any others?

New Haven did the same-loco change (like NJT) between Diesel & electric with EMD FL9 going to/from Grand Central.
UA Turbo did the same from gas-turbine to electric.

You might leave Chicago on the Olympian Hiawatha behind a Hudson steam engine, change to FM diesels in Milwaukee, change to Westinghouse electrics in the Eastern Rockies, change to a 4-8-4 through the gap, change to Bi Polar electrics for the rest of the trip to Seattle.

Add the CN-Grand Trunk Western trains between Chicago and Toronto (and on to Montreal) that passed under the border in a tunnel under the St. Clair river between Sarnia and Port Huron.  The tunnel was electrified in 1908 due to concerns over air quality (or lack thereof) in the tunnel with steam locos- so it would be a GTW 4-8-4 Chicago to Port Huron, electrics for the short trip Port Huron to Sarnia, and CN 4-8-4 Sarnia to Toronto (the trains, or parts of them, continued on to Montreal- not sure how they were powered on that stretch).  The electrics were operated by the St. Clair River Tunnel Co., which I believe was jointly owned by CN and GTW on paper (GTW itself being a CN subsidiary). If I understand correctly, the electrics operated until 1958, by which time GTW had acquired enough steam generator equipped Geeps to power all its passenger trains.

Also passenger trains into and out of Cleveland Union Terminal switched to/from steam to electric in the 1930s and 1940s

@Pradeep Kulkarni , can you explain the different paint schemes on the passenger cars?
I've now seen the two tone blue ones and the yellow with red bands. Do they signify different services?

Also, this has been bothering me for a while and I haven't been able to figure it out.

The Xs that are on the last car of trains. Those always look painted on, but I know that they're only supposed to be on the last car of the train. How does that work? Are there assigned "last cars" or are they something like vinyl stickers?

Sir these cars does not signify different services, but they are the improved version of old ones i.e,

ICF coaches (Blue colour)
This is the ICF coaches’ standard colour code in Sleeper Class, AC First Class, AC 3 Tier Sleeper, AC 2 Tier Sleeper, AC Chair Car, Non-Class Chair Car and ICF Style second class coaches.

LHB coaches (Red colour)
This is a standard LHB coach for Mail/Express/Superfast trains of Indian Railways. Indian Railways is replacing the old coaches with new strong LHB coaches in different trains. LHB coaches with the aluminium body are lighter in weight and safer for operations. When compared to the old coaches, these coaches are longer and can accommodate more passengers.

Utkrisht coaches (Yellow colour)
The train has been eqipped with several modern features including Vinyl wrapped doorways and gangways, LED lighting, BLDC fans, mobile charging points, berths with improved cushioning etc.

Amtrak's long-distance trains entering/leaving the Northeast Corridor from/for the south, change from diesel to electric and vice versa at Union Station in Washington, D.C., too.

And depending on how the ALPS feel on a given day, can still happen at Long Branch.
