Well, the BLI rep told me that a Big Boy would be released next year, so they are on track for that.  Still hoping for some more PRR steam in the next few years.

Actively 3... Athearn, Kato and BLI, when you add in Con-Cor and Brass  at least 5, maybe 6?

Its frustrating because BLI could have done ATSF 3751 (or the new one?), or MILW 261, or N&W 1218.. and sold just as many (probably more) of those, vs a Big Boy in a flooded market.

What? No announcement from Bachmann?

For the next 10 years, when we ask about steam in N scale at train shows, all we are going to hear is "Well, we did a Big Boy in the early 2020s, and only sold about a third of what we anticipated.  There's just no market for steam in N scale..."

Those fantasy schemes probably sell better than we think.

I have a friend who will get the Kato version of 4014, has preordered a TTG from BLI and has an Athearn 4014. I'm fairly certain BLI does the fantasy schemes because they will sell, bringing in more profit thus making it possible to do more real models with fantasy schemes that will sell. It's a vicious cycle to the rivet counter, but it will get them what they want eventually. Unless you model Sante Fe

Con Cor sold a lot of fantasy schemes on their Gas Turbines and U50s back in the day. Don't see why it will have changed much.

Actually, I think the fact that 3 manufacturers are all offering the same engine at about the same time is a sign of a maturing N scale market. I mean for years Atlas would not do a Dash 8-40C because of the Bachmann Spectrum offering, and Kato delayed their SD-40-2s for years because of the POS Bachmann Spectrum version that sounded more like a can crusher.

We should be thankful. They could all be doing more F units. :scared:

If they're doing fantasy schemes, I hope they do a veiny J when they get around to it.

I know that from a purely business point of view, fantasy schemes sell and help pay the bills.
But I still can't help it but cringe, sorry. And  the TTG Big Boys are not as bad as some other stuff...

It gets old. Like in the 1:350 ship model world. How many versions of the Iowa class battleship and USS Enterprise or battleship Yamato do we need. Yes each one seems to be better then the last but give it a break. We'd like something new, anything as long as it's different. Btw, between Riverossi, concor and Athearn I have five big boys. I don't need another.
