There were 70 of these cars that hauled 43,000+ gals of Ethylene glycol for DuPont! The trip was from A plant in Texas to their synthetic fiber plant in Delaware! No anti-freeze! [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Cool!  Do you know the routing used?  Any photos of them in route?

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful!

They were on CSX through N.O LA to Waycross GA then up CSX to Delaware. I forgot the town the plant was in!
Thank you Ed! I photographed the car in Waycross and was allowed to crawl all over it! I had copies of the original plans a friend talked DuPont out of!

Where in Delaware was the plant?

Pretty sure it was in Seaford.

Pretty sure it was in Seaford.

Damn, that's really down there.

I wonder where CSX handed them over to Conrail.

I have to wonder if it actually was Seaford. That was DuPont's nylon plant; I can't find any references indicating ethylene glycol was part of the process. EG is used to make PET (polyethylene terephthalate - clear plastic bottles), tho'. Did DuPont have a PET operation in the region?

I'm guessing the Delaware plant was in Wilmington.

Railgoats page has tons of great info.

http://www.railgoat.railfan.net/railwhales/index.htm

The RAIX cars served the Union Carbide plant in Prentiss AB. CN interchanged them with CP north of Red Deer, the yard was all 85lb rail! Must have been a sight!

@Bottomdrain Inspirational as always, makes me want to attempt some N scale versions.
