Pete, the plastic case is lettered Kato in blue. It has a Kato liner which is green marked E-8, with a white foam liner cut to fit the loco.

Similar to Pete, I'm guessing that someone stuffed it into a Kato E8 box. The Kato E8 was first released in 1993 (Blue Box era). It certainly did not have a Rivarossi shell.  :D

Well, the chassis of the all-Kato E8 is substantially different from the chassis of the Con-cor-Kato E8, as evident in photos on Spookshow's site, so determining which is which is a relatively simple task, boxes notwithstanding.

I had forgotten all about these, but I do have a couple of Con-cor/Kato E8 chassis riding under Life-Like shells- found them in a "project box" while looking for parts for something else.  In this case- the Life Like dummy couplers, and Unimates on the back.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

I put some 1015 ‘s on both ends. I had to widen the width opening between the two metal parts and file just a bit off the coupler box .
This let me press the coupler into the slot. I did put just a touch of JB weld on the top and sides.
