Ooops.  How does a wagon become vertical in a bridge? And your question on recovery and repair is a good one. Would be interested on how it was achieved.

I didn't know my Walker and Sons Logging operation needed a Baldwin Steam Dummy before I saw this photo.
E. G. Swartz & Co. had 3 , 2 from  Kansas City and one from Chicago. The company operated their mill at Swartz La . And we're in business from 1891- 1916

Mark Kucera Actually that car wasn’t supposed to be on that train. It was big empty auto parts box car. Behind it were 10k tons of train. Dropped down a 10% grade with dynamics and air at 20mph and boom there it was. Crew not charged but DTO and MTO got in hot water over it.
Alexey Dorokhov What [nonsense], where did you see a 10% grade?
[Your not going to fix this with sidewinders, or even a big hook. Someone mentioned they would cut the car out.]

As a student of Chicago area railroad history, where did the Chicago dummy come from?  (Okay, smart-As, I came from Brookfield!).

Ha. I saved that dummy photo on Facebook as well. Easy in HOn30 using HO street car bodies.

I have to have one . My logging operation is set in South Louisiana vs. North . And just the kind of thing I can imagine my Family buying  if they had been more successful. Not that they were not successful just smaller operation.

Nice underbody detail on that one.  :D

I have always thought that detailed under bodies were a waste on our N scale models.  I mean, really, who sees them unless there is a derailment on the layout.  And the added cost. Don't get me started.

Hum. May have to rethink this ......

No modeling yet this week. I had my audition for the USAF academy band, and made it to the final 8, but wasn’t offered the position. But I got a consolation prize the next day  8)

@PiperguyUMD ,

You were right near me!  I guess it's good that you didn't stop by...turns out this cold that's been kicking my a$$ since I got out of the hospital after spinal surgery last week is--yep--COVID.  That I'm vaccinated has made this much more tolerable, but all the coughing after having my cervical spine screwed together through an incision in my neck has sucked.  Big time.

Anyway, I did feel well enough Tuesday to build a Narrow Gauge Colorado laser kit for RGS outfit car 01714, built from one of the RGS' early 27' boxcars bought secondhand from the Rio Grande Western back in the 1890s when the latter was converted to standard gauge.

Peter:  I'm with the commenter in the quote you posted:  Where does the UP have a 10% grade, much less run 10K ton trains down it?

That would be excessive even for the Swiss narrow gauge lines, where the maximum grades for adhesion-only are about 7%.
