I have not been to this site myself for a long time but I had some photographs from long back which inspired me when I happened to find them. When I started this project intended to go to Gotland and Bläse again, but the pandemic kept me away. This coming summer, maybe.

The next obvious step was of course ballasting. Now done, although weeds and grass will be added later.

As for size comparison. Although this is O scale but 2 ft gauge the model rail gauge is no more than 12.7 mm, which is right in between H0 and N scale.

I have started to build the engine house, or the engine shed, as the Brits would say. I am building it from scratch, using 0.4 mm plywood and individual pieces of scale lumber. Not the most efficient way of modeling, but I find the tinkering somewhat relaxing and amusing.

Here is what I have done so far.



The wall sections have not yet been glued together. For the time being they are just leaning on each other.

Thanks. I’m not sure about the roof. Oddly enough the prototype uses wood shingles which is quite rare here in Sweden. So ideally I should go for that, but I do not really know how to model wood shingles in a convincing way. Any ideas? I might go for somerhing simpler like a tar paper roof instead.

I have done the roof panels. The prototype features a wood shingle roof, as far as I can see from my old photos. It took some experimenting to find a way of modeling that. I wanted it as true to the prototype as possible, but still take an acceptable time to finish. This is one of the panels, but not yet stained or weathered.





And this is how I did it: I started with the same 0.4 mm plywood that I used for the walls and measured and marked for scribing and cutting.



I then scribed the ply using a dental tool to give the impression of individual shingles.



Next I made horisontal cuts, forming strips of shingles side by side.



Then I glued the strips horizontally on to sheet styrene, with a bit of overlap.



And that's more or less it.

The engine shed has been finalized, i.e. painted assembled and weathered.

Scenicking has started, most notably so far with a pine tree.

The scenery is done, for the time being at least. I have added trees, bushes, different layers of static grass and more. Color tones created with an airbrush. Next I need to get cracking on some rollings stock, but first bear with me - a bunch of photos.
