I find myself doing a lot of work in millimeters .. I would liked to have a mm / 1/160 conversion scale on the back  --  but this is a fantastic product

Hi @John , thank you for the compliment.

I am not sure I understand what you mean. Millimeter graduations in N Scale would be .0002" apart, centimeters would be 0.0024" apart, decimeters would be 0.0246" apart, and each are too close to etch graduations on the metal.  Meters as created on the scale are 0.246" apart, far enough to etch graduations.

If you are referring to the conversion factor, if an object measures 5.6 meters in distance then 5.6/160=0.035 Meters.  To convert that to decimeters move the decimal place once to the right for each denomination: i.e. to convert to decimeters multiply 0.035m by 10, to convert to centimeters, multiply 0.035m by 100, to convert to millimiters, multiply 0.035m by 1000.

0.35meters = 0.35decimeters = 3.5centimeters = 35millimeters.

Hope this helps.

To convert inches to mm the factor is 25.4.  I.e. 1"= 25.4mm.

@ Lemonsteam -- sorry I wasn't clear --

If I have a blueprint in feet / inches ... When I draw up the file for 3d printing -- I use MM .. so it would be great to have a scale with Nscale Feet on the top, and actual MM on the bottom .. would save some calculator time :)   It's a nice to have thing .. would probably add extra expense to etch on the backside though

Some cad systems will let you calculate on the fly, I.e. when specifying the distance between two lines, sat 10 feet, you might be able to enter this on the fly: 10*12/160*25.4 and the lines would be spaced by the result of that value.

My knee right now is telling me it was... lol.

Also, my scales have arrived! Thanks @Lemosteam

Although I am disappointed with one thing. There was nothing obscene on or in the envelope. So disappointing.

YW, and I am very glad they have arrived with some of the mail shenanigans going on.  Sorry @chicken45 I am NOT.  Besides the envelop is nearly at the weight limit for a single stamp.

Just a note here to thank everyone here on TheRailwire for the incredible amount of support I received from the members here with respect to purchases.  The response has been awesome and i reserved the original orders for members here with NO social media announcement yet.  70 of 80 units were purchased by the members here and I can only provide a heartfelt thank you for supporting the Protomate brand through Keystone Details.

Funds will be used to underwrite the further development of the Protomate coupler and I hope to design and order prototype springs for further testing to get closer and closer to a production design solution.

Again, thank you, so, so much.

@peteski , when can I expect your patented macro image and testing product review writeup?  :D :D :D

Sincerely,
John

LOL John, mine arrived late last week, but I'm buried so deeply in projects, with a long backlog, that I don't know when I'll be able to do the review.  But I know that you know that I'll have something to say about the Protomate ruler.  ;)

Mine only arrived on Monday, and is already proving quite useful.  This is clearly the best tool in my toolbox for quick measurements that don't require caliper level accuracy.  I'm finding it really handy for locating decals correctly, and checking that stripes that are supposed to be 30 scale from the bottom of the car actually are at both ends of the car.  And the end of the tool makes a useful square to mark out cut lines on a car side or styrene strip.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

I received mine last week. It looks great. But all my modeling stuff is packed and in a pile in the new room. I cannot wait to use it though.  Thanks again!
