Was the Maypo car real, and if so is the model of an appropriate body type?

<edit> I have a sneaking suspicion that the prototype was a toy train - like Lionel or Tyco. I haven't found a single photo of a real train with this scheme yet... </edit>

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Wow, nice 40% bump from last run.  :P

I bought one of the USI Petroleum cars last run only to have it run on the wrong body (5 bay vs. 3 bay).  I don't know if I should chance it again and possibly end up with two incorrect cars.  :scared:

Nice...

What i really want to see is the IMC potash schemes... they were all over Western Canada and the upper midwest in the late 60s / early 70s...

I have one of those saved in my ebay cart... Were they all on 6 bay bodies?
Might wait and see if the new run is correct.

I sent a fairly passive aggressive e-mail to bowser saying I hoped that 40% price hike will include the correct body.

I never thought about it, but I guess there could be 3 bay versions out there from the first run.  I was told that they just grabbed whatever they had.

I wonder... I can't find a picture of one with 3 bays, but funny enough I found artwork showing both 3 and 6 bays... :?

I can't find any photos of this series, but fwiw multiple companies have produced this scheme...

If anyone has a copy of the Classic Freight Car Series covered hopper books, might be worth checking...

I think that's a doctored photo with four gates facing the same way.  Can't find any other 5 bay drawings to see what they look like.  I have some memory of this after I raised the issue to Bowser but can't really remember enough to be sure.

I would certainly wait if you can.  It's not just the bays, but the roof is different as well between the two styles.

edit:  Looking at some of the artwork for other cars, it looks like Bowser did this with a bunch of cars where they would show the artwork with 3 bays but run the car with 6.  :RUEffinKiddingMe:

There shouldn't be any since they only make two 3 bay variants (one with 3 outlets, one with 6 outlets)

Nice, I'll wait and see if I can pickup a couple from this run then...

That brings up a question, does the term "bay" refer to compartments or outlets?  :D

Since a 3 bay open hopper is technically 1 compartment

Another thing to watch out for is a roof insert that doesn't match the body.

Notwithstanding the trough hatch roof insert, cars with three outlets should have 6 inlets, cars with 6 outlets should have 5 inlets.

It's not a problem when buying a lot of pre-owned cars for dirt cheap that I eventually plan to strip, upgrade, and repaint, but it's pretty obnoxious when paying the cost of a new release...
