Ah, Lee, tales of the wierd?   I like that as a segway into this shot.

Howabout.... the new record for the most N scale CF7's ever seen on one layout at one time.... nine of them!

2598 - new finished unit for a customer from my kit

2470 and 2614 - my original 1980's scratchbuilt pair from styrene sheet, Atlas Roco parts and wire that appeared in Railroad Model Craftsman in April 1990 - now retired

2471 and 2615 - current in-service pair from my Randgust kits on current Atlas chassis - great performers.

2649 and 3 more undesignated friends - four more customer units 'in process' from my kits - just finished first paint.

I'll be resuming resin kit production of these in the fall, at least I have the etchings again.

3D Printed then detailed this ballasted deck girder bridge. Also trying out the AK Line of washes in the process. Little much now but the bridge isn't dullcoted yet.

Significant progress on the gondolas and chip cars this week; grab irons and ladders installed, brake wheels, chains and platforms fitted, and placards for the BCR cars added:






Time to re-install the couplers and trucks, and add some cut levers.

Lee:  I agree that the large cars were a little strange, especially for a scale that, at the time, bragged about the small space required, and the tight curves it would run on.

The short cars actually made sense.  Given tight curves and small layouts, short cars worked better, and allowed "longer" trains, at least by car count.  And those "beercan" tank cars, in various tank styles, were quite common in the 60s and 70s, although I seldom see them in trains today.  Maybe they just aren't in the trains I see!

 Here is the framework.

Richie, back in 2017 I had parts etched in brass to make that dummy in HOn30.



One of those things I never finished... Nowadays I could just make it in 3D.

Amtrak sent a special 50th Anniversary train through my town of Deer Grove today. This is the Micro-Trains 50th Anniversary car. I made a slight modification to by replacing the solid "railing" on the back platform with the "wrought iron" railing from an old Atlas Heavyweight Observation car.

Built kinda like my barn.  The one thing I wonder is whether the "knee" in the roof truss should have a diagonal brace backing it up- given all the other cross bracing.

Finally quit procrastinating and placed some foam on the door!  Since I last posted something about my layout, I decided to reduce the number of turnouts so that I could include a town scene on the layout.  Now it's time to figure out what to conquer next (track upgrade; installing folding table legs; roads/sidewalks) while operating trains  :)

Managed to get a bit further with cutting up and extending old Bachmann mechanisms  :D :D Still a lot of work to do to get it to run well.
