Gary, could I ask you for the files for the Athearn LPG car?

It would be way cool if there was a place to host these files on TRW.  The files even aren't all that large.  I'd be happy to contribute the concrete tie files if anyone was interested.

Every time I see @GaryHinshaw's printed parts, I want to buy a 3D printer.  It makes me want to build a bridge again.

Sure.  The .stl files can be downloaded directly from this TinkerCAD folder.  There are a few variant designs that I attempt to explain in the description box of each file.  If something is unclear, ask me via PM or otherwise.  (These links can be a bit flaky -- I know some have had trouble accessing them.  If you do, let me know and I can try to reset them.)

I'm looking into setting up a Thingiverse account to share these more broadly and easily.  I'd also like to provide the sliced .pwmo files as well for anyone who has a Photon Mono (or Mono X) and wants to just print them directly, but I haven't had time to come up with anything yet.  Hosting them here is a question for @tom mann to consider.  In the meantime, I'm happy to email .pwmo files to anyone that wants them, but I've been a bit bogged down with some issues in the Maxi-IV project (1st photo above) that have sucked up my modelling time over the past week, so it might take me a while to get to that.

The Maxi-IV project is looking fabulous, it's very interesting for me.

I just saw a Photon Ultra, but I don't know if it's for sale yet.

I'd be happy to lend some web knowledge to setting up a model railroad focused online 3D printing file repo.

While I WANT a 3d printer, and an IT tech, I also know that I won't take the time (and frustration) to try and learn any 3d software (I had a Alps printer for decals that I never used as well and that only required Word). I do know that I would use it to print other peoples files if they were something I could use. So Ed, don't do it, don't help set up a model railroad file repo or I will have to blame you for me getting a 3d printer. I have no idea why I keep reading all of the threads here in the 3d printing forum.

It's a real problem, right?

I'm hoping that by doing something like this I'll learn about it myself through osmosis.

Because you know you secretly want one  ;).

Nothing against setting up file storage here but there are places doing that now that you can search, such as  ( https://www.thingiverse.com/ ) and others.  I have over 100 items up on thingiverse.com myself here...

Get the printer and start printing, you will find lots of items to print and no need to learn a CAD program to still enjoy the benefits of having a printer,

I agree -- between thingiverse, and some of the other sites, there's no reason for another repository to drop files ...

I spent a few minutes searching on Thingverse and found it difficult to refine and find things.  It might be useful to have a curated thread here for links to things people discover or post elsewhere.  Just a thought.

I never found anything I could use on Thingverse.
