^ This.  Making a list and setting goals makes it too much like work for me.  I just attack whatever I'm in the mood to accomplish.  Granted, I'm not the fastest layout builder.  Almost five years and counting on my current layout, and it's not finished, although, technically, all benchwork, trackwork, and wiring are 100% complete.  It's really just scenery, structures, and finish details, such as fascia, left to do.

Yep. And I like to make sure I can "play" along the way to keep it fun.

If I feel like doing some switching, now I can do that. If, while doing that switching, I get fed up with unpowered frogs, I'll start working on getting those all wired up.

The only "big" hangups are when there's a big blocker in place. Like right now I want to get going on backdrops, but before I do that I need to go drop $900 on a printer, and while this is bonus month, it was also "write an annoying check to the IRS month", so I feel like I need to behave.

THE HEMET DEPOT is a weird duck. It was first built as a freight station in the late 1800's, then a passenger station, burned, rebuilt, abandoned and now a museum.

I had this idea of trying to find a kit to represent it. The Model Power Erie Station looked like it would fit the bill. However, Dave Foxx, who has scratched a similar station in two scales on his layout ordered it to be scratch built. (Not really "ordered" but highly suggested). In my years of communicating with him on RAILWIRE he has always been right as rain.

I searched to find someone who has built Hemet in any scale. There is a different representation of it on the HO San Jacinto Model Railroad Club that doesn't look like it. Let's face it, it's weird. It has a European look that makes it look like it's right out of The Netherlands.

I have decided to built from styrene. Please pray for me. I asked the depot museum for any plans and have not heard from them yet.

Nice.  One thought I had, if I were building your station would be to trace the shape of the tudor-looking trimwork onto 0.005" or 0.010" styrene and laminate that over the walls.  That's probably not far from the construction of the prototype, which probably just has an appliqué of timber to look as timber post-construction.

Definitely the trimwork I was talking about.  My only concern with decals or paper is the relief.  Usually the "tudor" timber trimwork projects from the body of the structure somewhat.  You would lose that detail with decals or paper.

EDIT: No matter which type of product you use to model the trimwork, you have those elevation drawings in the plans.  Resize them to N scale and you have your patterns to cut out the trimwork!  That could simplify things tremendously.  Those plans are gold!

Those station plans are sweet.  That is a big station!  It's also nice that you can see what the interior is.  I have no idea what the interior of the SAL station that I scratchbuilt is like.

Nah, no worries.  I just edited my previous post, so in case you missed it:

You could copy James McNab and my future plans and get one of those cricut cutters that crafters use. I believe it can cut .020” styrene

Memorial Day Weekend and some change, heading to house with layout and no real plan, want to see what develops and hoping to be able to JRMFT by Memorial Day. This is my first point to point so I am going try to get THE SAN JAC Local running into Hemet and leaving with cars. With stand in industries.
