Chuck,
It might be cool to pull Hemet all the way to the right side of your space & model it more faithfully.... there’s so much visual interest and enough switching potential for a great layout.

MDW - Funny you say that....This can work, below mock-up. Hemet occupying the main part of layout. Left hand side (3') would be the area on Chris' map with the runaround and other industries and to the right where there is (4') might be Winchester siding and/or maybe a view block to change to Box Springs to Perris. Now this makes it expandable to include and around the room 1' shelf. Could include the places that I will loose with the modified Hemet.

Short visit to Yuma and the house this weekend. Hopefully I can get the rest of the fascia up
and the backdrop up and painted.

Fascia and backdrop up, need to fill countersunk screw holes and seams, prime and paint. For the first time
ever, no free form track plan to layout transfer. I measured on the plan and laid out Hemet as per the
suggested track arrangement. The team track laid out great. I mismeasured the 3' section on the left as
4' so I will not have the runaround, but more industries up from the yard and team track.

Can you get by -operationally - without the runaround?   At this point in your build, it shouldn’t be too difficult to fix and will just end up being more work later.

I think I can do the runaround on the curve to the left going into the 3' left side section. That's
really where it is...

Long time no chat to most of you on here....

At the time the layout design appeared in MR I thought it was certainly unique. Now I think it may well be something of a bellweather layout design - ahead of it's time. Not because it was an accurate representation of the actual track arrangement (it wasn't) but in essentially the same amount of square footage required to host a 4x8 Andy offered a railroad plan with a cohesive theme, staging, realistically sized and recognizable structures with breathing room, and staging. And presented as something that a beginner could readily execute.

Most of these elements are commonplace on layout designs now, but at that time it was something you simply didn't see in "beginner" track plans.

Anyway, years ago I actually considered modeling the San Jac branch - and Andy was kind enough to send me a copy of a softback book he'd come across on the line - after he'd published that layout design!

 I know it included the track layout for San Jacinto proper  - it may have something on Hemet but I don't recall. I'd be glad to dig it out and see if that's something of interest. I think I may be able to actually find it fairly quickly....

Of course you may already have a copy of the thing and I'm just wasting your time!

Filling Masonite joints isn't that easy. Took several tries to get it right and I still have to fill and sand a few countersink screw holes that have shown through. (OCD) effect, they are at subroadbed line and will never be seen with backdrop photos. You can see the bend to the left, which needs another application, sanding and painting. The bend on the right seemed to work after a few fills and sand. I want to paint the fascia the same color as the room instead of black. That color looks great on the far left section of the subroad bed.

I kinda hate but also kinda love these aspects of layout construction. It has nothing to do with trains, but it's gotta get done.
