I know, because more than once, I tried to be lazy and hoped that the little bit of mesh showing through would never be seen under paint.  Wrong.  Short cuts generally don't save effort and may end up causing more work before completion.  Something I bet you can appreciate after your third attempt to address the seams in your backdrop.  Hopefully, you can get that finish back on the backdrop after repairs, because your sky and clouds looked fantastic.

After sanding I was able to see some mesh (very little) and dabbed and feathered more mud. I won't know how this finally turned out until I get back for Thanksgiving. Then I will get the sky profile going again. Thank you for the kind and wonderful comments. I always think I'm a F-UP.

Heading to work on the layout and get some sun and warmth this weekend. I have so many thoughts swirling around in my head on what to do first for 2 1/2 days of layout work. I want to get all the materials together. I have some in the train room, some in the work shed and some under the counter in the patio. I have some in drawers, in rolling carts and more. I love organized model railroading and I never quite get there. I know I want to have once central place for everything and then keep just needed items in the train room. Any help on how to whip this into shape?
