My modelling this week included installation of ends on my NSC gondolas:

and extensions on my chip car conversions:

Safety appliances are next.

On Friday night the last operating session was held prior to disassembly and removal of the layout.  Operators included regulars Michael, Nolan and Philippe:

The session included a meet between Work Extra 607 and Extra 804 East at Tremblay:

The last train from Dawson Creek passes through Progress and Tremblay:

After the Peace-Vancouver freight and all other power had departed Chetwynd, RS-3 570 was the last to leave the layout, towing a woodchip car for return to Philippe:

We then began removing structures, and making the connecting hardware, track and wiring separations between benchwork sessions.  Here is a last look at the complete layout prior to removal:

One by one the sections went out of the apartment, down the elevator, over to the new building, up the elevator and into the new apartment:

The last sections to be removed were the two halves of Chetwynd Yard:

Fifteen hours after the last train had run, it was all gone; just the shelving standards and bracket left to take down.   :(

A huge thank you to my removal crew who did an amazing job assisting me with this sad task.

Tim

I am taking a break from modeling for the next few weeks. Instead, I'm just going to enjoy my Rado Captain Cook that I picked up last month.

Tim, may I ask how big is that room?

It's always sad to take down any layout but it sounds like it will be up and running very soon at the new place.

The room measures 13'-0" x 11'-4" which is fairly large by today's standards for apartment bedrooms.  There are 2200 units in my complex and this was the only bedroom with that type of width; most bedrooms are typically 10' wide or so.

So, this was the only unit out of 2200 with an extra-wide bedroom? How big is the bedroom where you're moving to?

Bryn, fabulous job on the loco!
Can you please tell us about your trackwork? What size rail are you using?
Thanks, Otto

Hi Otto,

It's British outline 2mm Finescale track, which has a gauge of 9.42mm.  I just use the layout as a back drop for shooting photos, more information on the layout and track can be found on my blog https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blogs/blog/233-colwyn-bay-goods-2mm-finescale/

Oddly, the room actually looks smaller without the railroad.

Moving is never fun but good to see the portable design pay off.    As someone currently constrained to a usable 9ft x 8ft space I am envious of the relative size of that room.   Will the new apartment layout room offer more space?..  perhaps to include more of the Fort St John subdivision? ;)
