Any chance we could see the bottom of the board? I assume that is where the speaker solder pads are, but I wonder if the motor tabs on Atlas and Intermountain stand a chance of lining up with the motor pads on the other side, if it has any. I am not afraid to cut a frame to make room for sound, but I would like not to have to solder the motor tabs to the decoder. The 58721 has been a bit frustrating for me.

I don't believe you have to solder the motor tabs to the decoder.  The original Kato tabs should simply snap in and lock onto the decoder board (that is why the decoder has 2 pairs of holes on the motor pads).  Just like they are snapped onto the  original Kato light board.

I'm not 100% certain but IIRC some of the older Kato boards do have soldered tabs.   It's not too hard to (carefully of course) solder a small jumper from the decoder to the motor tabs, tho it does mean you would have to desolder it if you ever wanted to remove the decoder (say to clean/lube the mechanism).

In my case I'm upgrading from some non-sound Digitrax decoders, which do have their own tabs (soldered), and I don't think I have the original Kato boards.   So looks like I will be doing a little bit of extra soldering  :D

Or maybe not. In reply #12 Kelley stated that replacement tabs can be ordered from Kato.

Looks like this is the part:

Circuit Board Power Clips, 2 ea
N-Scale / Fits: AC4400CW, C44-9W, ES44AC, SD70M (Non-Sprung Suspension), SD70MAC, SD80MAC, SD90/43MAC

As long as you don't mind paying $7.00 shipping for a $2.00 part.  :D

Some Kato models are shipped with lightboards where those tabs just pop off.  Others come with those tabs soldered to the lightboard.  For the latter, I'm sure one could desolder the tabs.   Which might be worth the effort to avoid that shipping cost.  Being aware of this, I might throw a few of those tabs on the order though, next time I need to order parts.

Those are the clips, and that is the shipping charge.  :P   $7 doesn't seem all that much compared to what other companies charge. $7 also is not all that much if you buy enough clips for 5 or 10 locos, and also buy some other Kato parts you might need.

Anyone have any solid info on the current status of these boards (along with the Nano)?

I will second this question. I'm sure hoping ESU understand the desire for these boards. I have some V4 micros that were intended to be installed in some Kato units but now will be sold of to fund these new boards.

On a Trainworld video meeting in late May ( https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=51348.msg711823#msg711823 ) Matt Herman was hoping these would be available by "late summer" - Like now.  But they are held up due to electronic parts shortages so it's hard to say when they will show up.  It's not ESU that is delaying it.  Their board fabricators are waiting for parts so they can build the boards.

The electronic parts world is in a huge uproar.  In some cases parts are backorderd over 52 weeks.  Hopefully the parts ESU needs aren't.

I asked on the ESU Facebook page a week or so ago but got no answer.

I suspect that ESU doesn't know, and FTM no one really does.

Well look what showed up this weekend.  :D

The rest of the 58741's for the retail market are being packed by ESU and shipping out this week to whomever ordered them.

Apparently those are already pre-sold out.

Enjoy!

Kelley.

Meh.  I'm waiting for the Nano's.  The 58741 Kato "drop ins" won't fit most of my pre-sound Atlas locos any better then the 73199 replacements (58721).

Great news! (I think...I didn't pre-order any until just now). Are these going to come with the motor lead paddles/ears?

Doesn't appear so from the photos.
See reply #12, then 15-20.

OK, thanks. Should've read-thru the whole thread again. For some reason, I thought the verdict was that they were trying to source them to be included.

The loss of the 73100 board leaves a huge void, especially with no signs of a direct replacement for it.
