Got a Bachmann email today. They have (re-)released a new 40' high-cube appliance car sliding-door model. It appears to be a modified version of the original tooling back from the early days, the original body on a new floor/underframe. Which in itself is not necessarily a bad thing as that bodyshell tooling was to scale and well done. However, while the decoration is now state of the art, the car rides too high and they are very pricey, among other things. But I believe unlike the Micro-Trains car that this is an accurate representation of the ATSF prototype, with the flat roof and other features. So when they go on heavy discount, one can be acquired and reworked at a reasonable expense.https://shop.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=265_392_396_1180CORRECTION - the Union Pacific model is the plug door, so both bodystyles have returned.

FWIW, the MTL model (otherwise a nice model) also rides too high.
More importantly, it has a peaked roof which is not great.
ATSF had interior posts similar to the UP plug door cars.
You guys have GOT to be kidding with these. These are train set quality cars with tooling from the... 60s? 70s?And you want $40 for them?I don't know what your product planning folks are thinking, but these are NOT what modelers are looking for.If you want to charge premium prices for things, do more runs of your awesome stuff like the 44 tonners and various steam engines. Those are great and worth the money. But a boxcar that looks like something I bought at Kiddie City back in 1983? You're on the wrong track.
That car is higher than Snoop Dogg...
Ok so they are releasing four schemes: ATSF, BN, D&RGW, & UP.The ATSF car (#14044) looks to be the wrong body:http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/atsf/atsf14037ary.jpghttp://www.rr-fallenflags.org/atsf/atsf14009jpa.jpgThe BN car (#281460) is the wrong body.http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2370679The D&RGW car (#67422) also looks to be the wrong body:http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/drgw/drgw67424jpa.jpghttp://www.rr-fallenflags.org/drgw/drgw67430bgC.jpgThe UP car (#518126) looks fairly close. http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/up/up518124a03.jpgThat knocks out three of them for me.
