I like it, but like many CSX schemes there's just something a bit "off" with it.

Maybe the Times New Roman cab number?

That's definitely part of it.  I think it's also just trying to fit the scheme onto a boxy F40PH carbody.  Additionally, the F40PH is taller than an E- or F-unit, and, because there's no stainless steel grilles along the top of the sides, there's slightly more gray than on the original scheme. All of this adds up to being just slightly "off."

That said, I give kudos to CSX for finally honoring a fallen flag's scheme in an appropriate manner, and I like it much better than the CSX boxcar scheme.  Now, CSX, get out there and paint the rest of the OCS fleet into this scheme.

Maybe the Times New Roman Palatino cab number?

Or Palatino variant, the 'C' and 'S' are spotting details for the typeface, the 'X' is flat-footed, which is not in the style.

What's "off" is the "CSX1" crowds the space above and below, both the stripes on the sides and the number boards. Reducing the size 10-15% would fix it.

If not for the amateur foolishness with the "CSX1", it's an attractive scheme, and a good typeface choice if you had go with a "modern" font. The blank circle on the nose where the B&O capitol logo would go is awkward, however, but I approve of the choice of "nothing" over forcing something that didn't exist previously just to fill the void.

This.  It looks like a grade school penmanship exercise.  I think the yellow striping around the snowplow looks weird too, kind of like a piped suit.  Otherwise, very nice.

Haha!  I’ve been hoping that’s just remnants of masking tape that haven’t been pulled.

CsX1 is the worst part.

The blue-black-blue should bot be equal (top blue should be a bit wider.

Pilot should be gray

And the blue-grey color change should not have a yellow stripe.

CSX Transportation  should have been a wider font.

Otherwise not bad... (its on par with what Metra and NJ Transit is doing..)

The yellow plow striping it means that the unit is cleared for operation in 3rd rail territory.

(I'm too lazy to look, do we have sarcasm font around here?)

I like it.  Think the CSX1 should have been down in the black.  Maybe that's what's throwing everyone off ?

Not being a B&O fan, and having no "history" to compare it to, it looks fine to me.  As for the nose herald, doesn't CSX still own the rights to the B&O heralds?  If so, they could use that, either as-is, or with "CSX" replacing the "B&O".  Either would fill the blank space.

What a mishmash of mistakes only Bachmann should make on a paint scheme.  :D

Add in the extra striping (Having the yellow stripes run right under the grab irons is unforgivable for future model versions.) might have some safety regulations, as might the yellow outline around the plow. Would have looked better with a full yellow plow if they wanted visibility. The yellow dot makes on the nose makes it look like a Wal Mart sales tag. If it says CSX on the side, the CSX in the road number is from the department of redundancy department.

And the yellow rails above the ladder are distracting.  Looks like a paint scheme designed by the legal department.

The nose would have looked better if instead of angling down like the original did on a curved nose which flows nicely, the stripes could have angled up to match the nose contour of the FP40.

CSX definitely has issues with legacy schemes

Yeah, nice try, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.  I agree that the CSX1 is too large, in an awkward spot, and too many "CSXs".  It would be better if they just gave the loco a plain road number.  Like 1000 or even 0001 (in sans-serif typeface on the number boards).  Put the road number in the same spot where the original locos had it.

So if I'm writing this locomotive on a track warrant would it be "CSXT 1" or "CSXT CSX1"?

It seems just a 1 in the black band would look very classy... especially on the aft end keeping the nose looking clean...

Not unlike the Pan Am Railways F units.  I thought “PAR 1” looked stupid in the numberboards.

Isn't there already a csx #1 ACsomething.. spirit of....

http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5548565

Yeah.. active as a few weeks ago.

As I recall, CSX locos are ID'd with CSXT initials.  So that would make it CSXT CSX1. (Or its CSX 1 to differentiate it with CSXT 1 the freight unit)
