Stacks O' Ties (N scale)

Looking to model something like this -

I've been fumbling around with Osborn's pain-in-the-a$$ "Bundle of Ties" product for the last couple of days and have pretty much reached the limit of my patience. Anything else out there that's quicker and easier?

Thanks!
-Mark

Stained strip wood cut to the appropriate lengths is how I’d go about it, but I have sh!t loads of it.

Make 2 or 3 nice detailed ‘masters’ and cast them in resin. I’ve done this to represent stacks of used ties using appropriate stripwood, distressed and with added tie plate impressions and spike holes. Once you’ve got the bundles looking as you like you’ll need to seal them so the mould silicon isn’t absorbed into the wood fibre, but otherwise it’s pretty straightforward.

Here is a pile of ties if you have a printer.  Its 7 x 9 x 8.5' with some randomness in the pile so you can see detail in the stack.  The ties in your image appear to be wider than standard.  I can send a stl but I can't attach it.

I think the consensus is that these are crossing planks and not ties.

Fine N Scale Products makes a nice resin kit which I used in my tie car.  When painted according to the instructions they turn out beautifully.

I'm with Bryan:  Unless you need a LOT of them (modeling a sawmill or tie plant?) I'd just use stripwood.  You can buy tie stock from Kappler, and probably other places.  For the stacks pictured, I'd probably use 1/32 x 1/16 basswood, since we don't know the exact size.

I've never ordered from Kappler, but have bought their wood at hobby shops, and it seemed to be good quality.

I like the looks of these - no assembly required!  :D

There are some GREAT NZT ones out there if you can find them.

You can have mine (if you successfully pry them from my cold dead hands).

Blair Line makes "Untreated Pile O' Ties" in N scale, ready to use that are pretty nice. They are real wood and can be easily stained.

There are options on eBay for tie piles too.
