Then the only things left are track, vehicles, and structures.  I guess it is a '90s vehicle.

Well, I doubt it's track, but track with concrete ties might qualify.

Our insider did mention that he would want one when issued in the right "road name" so rolling stock, perhaps passenger cars, like mass transit commuter cars makes sense, but sort of don't match the road name comment.  So maybe a business car with the glass back platforms?

Roadrailers isn't a bad guess, half trailer, half railcar, but not quite either. :)  Could also be a crane, track inspection vehicle, or some MOW vehicle, although MT has the tie machines, etc., so I feel unlikely.  Ditto some kind of , some of which have been done.

As to typical enough in the 1990s, for "everyone to want one" railroads rebounded economically due to growth of unit trains, in COFC, TOFC, Well cars, automobiles, coal, grain, and food (i.e. the old BLMA 70 foot reefer unit trains, but that is sort of area specific)

There are sure enough vehicles to be made, as CMW is mostly 50's. The iconic cars of the 90's like Ford Trucks and Hummers have been made.

I would guess a 90's structure would be a Starbucks Coffee, maybe in drive through and sit down variations.  Maybe some other chain, like Chili's?

Railroad structures might be diesel locomotive fueling racks, available in brass and from Bachman, but probably long out of stock?

Possibly a new street system, including crossings to fit Atlas C55 and/or C65 track, and/or interstate roads.  Maybe a re-issue of the BLMA 90's style billboards in new schemes? (They are sweet!)

The railroads killed a lot of jobs in the 1990's due to tech, maybe a railroad unemployment office?  They made a lot of money, so maybe a bank building?  And, there were a large number of mergers in the 1990's so maybe they reissue some of that generation's locos in more patch job schemes?  Maybe a 3 pack of GP38 or similar in BN, ATSF, and BNSF (or patch, or Frisco, etc.) or UP/WP/SP/CNW/DRWG (probably need two 3 packs per mega merged railroad, eh?

Or maybe, it's scaling down automatic train control for more prototypical ops?  We could now control our union pacific themed layout from Omaha?  Or their own track powered Freds that can be installed in any car?

I guess we will have to see.

Spice Girls? No wait, they were early 2000s.

Not impressive so far if it's not a loco or a freight car.

Nobody wanted the Spice Girls.. (well.. not for their music at least..)

I didn't say it would be impressive..  I said it will be well received / people will want some..

I could be wrong too.. I was watching a pre-recorded video.. they may be announcing something else on the live video as well.

Edit.. Previously, I was watching the video.. but not listening to the audio... It is 'NOT' brand new tooling

Well, T-25hrs...   (show starts at 12E, 11C, 10M, 9P)

Man, with all this hype preceding the announcement, it seems certain to make the disappointments outweigh any limited glee from those who actually want the new product.  I can't think of anything that has a "road name" that will be bought by more than 50% of the modelers reading this.

Must be an N scale AEM-7.

I would straight up stab someone I moderately liked for one of those.

What about a Hi-Rail MOW vehicle or something like that? Seems that could fit a lot of roadnames. Not sure if they have the engineering to make it operate although that would be awesome.

One ting is for sure: The enticing announcement and the following "leaks" and hype sure did its job. We are all talking about it.  Good merchandising Atlas!

And we're also as confused as ever!  But it will not be the 2-8-8-2 Mallet - I can guarantee that!  ;)

I was thinking the same, a MOW or a passenger car that has not been done. Not a locomotive or a freight car but has a roadname associated with it.

Here's my last guess before I go to sleep:
45 or 48 foot smoothside containers.
If I can manage to sleep a good 12-14 hours I should be able to wake up and find out right away.  :o

Looking at the Atlas Production Schedule, I’m not sure why they would announce new products since they can’t seem to get previously announced products from 2 years ago built & shipped.

Might want to build what you’ve already announced first guys.

It's a model of a model railroad factory - nonfunctional, of course.

Yeah I think by 2000 they had already partly split up.  Mel C definitely had a solo hit that was all the range when I was in Europe in 2000.

45ft smooth side containers?  Were those common?

Some 40 and 45ft exterior post boxes would be something that hasn't been done RTR in N.  Mearsk, Sealand, APL.
