Transcontinental Sleepers..

I'm curious about Transcontinental Sleepers....

I can find some good info on 'How' it was done (at least in Chicago).

But I'm more-so looking for details on the rhyme/reason for what Western road cars were shared with with Eastern Road and vise versa

I was able to identify (and later locate) an accurate Kato 4-4-2 Regal Gate and 10-6 Pine Arroyo cars for my 20th Century train.

But I'm curious if there are any on line resources for CNW/UP, SP, MILW/NP/GN, CBQ/DRGW/WP Trains)

On some of the NYC Videos, I see 1 or 2 UP painted cars.. but you can't tell if those are NYC Cars painted in UP colors, or UP cars..

According to C&NW's Jan. 9, 1955, timetable, the City of Los Angeles and City of San Francisco each carried 10-6 sleepers from NYC and Pennsy on alternate days.

Pretty sure there are images of the same in the Morning Sun "C&NW in Color" books. I believe those cars belonged to the eastern roads, and were provided for "through" service. If you've seen passenger cars in UP colors to the east, I imagine it was the same arrangement.

The C&NW had some passenger varnish in UP colors, but bearing "Chicago & North Western" in text. They pooled or had joint ownership of some equipment for a time.

RI/SP Golden State usually had a Pennsy 10-6 through sleeper.

Initially they were 4-4-2 sleepers (2 of them) - in Golden State paint.

I realized that the Canadian Southern site has a compilation of Sleeper assignments.. and initially I thought it was just NYC Cars, but in some cases, it lists connecting road cars as well.

Passenger timetables for the era and roads you are interested in are a good resource.

The first few pages highlight through sleeper service to Los Angeles, San Francisco and points in Texas.
Other roads involved in providing that service include ATSF, CNW, UP, RI, SP, CBQ, DRGW, WP, SLSF, MKT, MP and T&P.

Also, at one time, there were tour companies running trips throughout the country using chartered Pullman cars.
There might have been trips from the east coast to Yellowstone park or to the Grand Canyon.
I recall seeing a photo of four PRR sleepers parked on a siding in either Bozeman or Livingston MT while a tour group they were carrying was visiting Yellowstone.
Likewise, there could have been trips from western states to the world's fair in New York.
Pullman would assign whatever cars were available from their pool.
The cars would usually travel in the various railroads regularly scheduled trains.
