Intermountain GPEX Milk Car.

Speaking of Intermountain,

Were these ever produced?  'Cause I need one.

I would like to do a Chateau Martin wine car.  They came through Montana in the '60s.

IM had it on the schedule at one point but never released it. You would be better served if you hunted one of the Pullman green models down and painted your own. They are moderately difficult to find but not impossible. I needed a Baker’s Chocolate car a couple of years ago and it took only a couple of months to hunt one down.

Right, I guess I new they never produced the paint scheme,  I wasn't sure if the car itself ever found the light of day.  I'll keep looking!

Yep, according to PWRS, it was cancelled sometime before its scheduled delivery in 2012 (I don't know if that was the actual delivery date)
https://www.pwrs.ca/announcements/view.php?ID=5098

According to a review I came across, HO modelers did get the car, but some (at least the reviewer) were not happy with the color.

Edit: Sorry, that may have been confusing.  I only meant that the Chateau Martin and some other roadnames were cancelled.  The car itself was produced in several roads- I think I have one buried in one of my boxes of rolling stock along with a couple of the Athearn wood Pfaudler cars plus a bunch of the MDC/Athearn express reefers.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

The milk car was produced. They may have only done one run and it was at least a decade ago. But they do exist.

These cars were operated in the same time period as the all steel Pfaudler cars. These are not bad models, I have several of these REA type cars.

Andrew,

Three have been on eBay this year. I would set up a search with notifications and one should appear within the next few weeks.

Looks like the same seller of these three and the one sold in December, based on the background in all the photos. If you contact him directly, you might get lucky.

But those cars are not the same as those car featured in the photo in the initial post of this thread.

@hegstad1 Andrew - I reached out to the seller. He has four remaining, three without trucks and all missing stirrups.  Certainly a complete model could be assembled from two of his cars.  I told him you were looking for one for a custom project and that you probably would be contacting him. The seller is geebeau777.

Nice to see a seller with very reasonable shipping charges.

Thanks Bryan! I'll contact him.

In the mean time my friend Michael came through with these.

For inquiring minds, a link to a very fascinating web page containing a brief history of New York's Eastern Wine Corporation's Chateau Martin brand and lots of historical photos of 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70s era Chateau Martin wine cars:

Well, it looks like both the IM Pfaudler and the MDC/Athearn express reefer are very close to steel and wood, respectively, Chateau Martin cars.  I wonder if I will be able to resist these myself, now that I know they are real.  Plus I have an urge to pick up a couple bottles of something....

Times like this I miss living in Chicago, where you could find a hobby shop and liquor store in the same block.  Or Zeintek's, which was a hobby shop on the second floor over a bar. (Still there, but I understand it is only a hobby shop these days.) Guess I will have to make do later, sipping something out of the fridge while searching eBay....
