Take a cab ride on The Oakville Sub!
Work progresses on the NYC flat and RDG gon from last week. Meanwhile, another project I've started recently is a correctly-scaled GP35 shell that is the right width. I'd like to eventually make all the phases, but since I could use a CSX Roadmate I began with that (since it's less work ). The first test print came out great! Just needs a few tweaks (like the fan housing is too thin to glue a BLMA fan onto and the the rivets on the dynamic brakes are too small to see).
Something I've been wanting to do is draw a turnout using Atlas c55 rail and NMRA clearances as I've yet to see a template or jig that creates a proper turnout. (Attachment Link) It's not possible to follow prototype measurements do to the flange clearance at the heel of the point. On this turnout, I made the point rails slightly longer to get down to a 2.5 degree diverting angle. Then I used the largest radius I could to the frog (~35.5"). This still made the distance between the tip of the point rails to the tip of the frog a little short. But as I said, N scale clearances require some sort of compromise. That came out really well Jim! Beautiful layout!What type of locomotive was behind the camera? Its engine sounded a bit unusual (except when in the tunnels).
Does this mean you have a solid model coming for the frog itself in this geometry? Would love to see those cast.
You're hearing the Scale Trains Dash 9. There's a ST Tier 4 behind it. Put 'em on just because they were the handiest and needed some run time. Don't care for the Dash 9 sound as opposed to the T4, but my hearing sucks anyway.
