BLI Light and Heavy Southern Pacific Pacifics...WTF?!!

Overlooking any problems that some others are having with the engine, why would a company that prides themself in producing nice, accurate, SCALE trains come out this the USRA light and heavy pacifics, with sound and a hefty price tag of $350 release one for the Southern Pacific, who didn't own ANY USRA engines in a foobie paint scheme? Closest thing to an SP engine would require engine skirts, a skyline casing, and a Vandy tender. Disappointed is an understatement.

Perhaps belongs in the Product section thread, but for the same reason they have a B&O green "President Washington" what doesn't much look like the real thing.  Many will still buy it, run and have a blast.  If it makes them money and funds more N scale steam development, all the power to them.

Really, the point is that they're reusing the USRA Mikado boilers and putting them on a 4-6-2 chassis.  So they stretch the tooling (Rock Island only one that's prototype?) and maybe we get a Pacific that's better for shell swaps than the Model Power one.

There were so few USRA Pacifics that this is where they land on producing a model.

I thought the boiler of a USRA 2-8-2 was different than a USRA 4-6-2?

My understanding was that the light Mike boiler was used for the heavy Pacifics, and that the light Pacifics got a slightly smaller boiler.

Hell, why waste resources on antiquated steam engines at all? Give us some more modern diesels instead.  :D :D :D :D

I'll show myself out behind my 2-6-8 Samuri steamer.

The boilers themselves are the same size, but all the walk ways and other details are different.

If the B&O green locomotive had a high mounted headlight it might be sort of OK. Con Cor got Rivarossi to do a high mounted headlight boiler front that plugged into the front of the boiler on the green President Pacific they did for a trainset (Limited Edition) eons ago. Nate Goodman (Nato). "Collected almost all of them", sets that is.

Something is better than nothing in my opinion. Who knows when we will see any more model power pacifics so your options are a K4 or nothing at this point.

There are more people out there that will just be happy to have a steam loco with SP on the side of it than will complain about it not being an accurate model. Hopefully a lot more, so they can keep making money and making us more unique models.

Or Conrail?

Maybe they will do Conrail if/when they do a Reading T1

I'm surprised Walthers didn't do Penn Central with the Life Like Berkshire.

I could easily see Concor or Bachmann making up paint schemes, but if I'm paying $350 for an engine, I just expect more than a fantasy. After checking my files, even the Christmas loco is painted wrong
