Can I just say how much I love that Lehigh Valley patch job? I'm trying to imagine what it looked like before...was it always LV? Would the big LV waving flag herald have been under the "CUSHIONED CAR" stencil?

Oh man, you know, I never actually looked for a photo of the real car! lol. I got the raw car second hand from @CodyO , I think, and just hit it with some weathering (and maybe COTS). It's actually a factory paint job by Roundhouse. They didn't get it spot on, but it sure is a cool car to have floating around.

I never really got to see it first hand and it's damn good to know that I'm getting the vibe right.

Amusingly, I talk very openly about my hobby with my coworkers, often referring to myself as a "B List Model Train Celebrity". I've shown a bunch of these photos off recently and I KEEP hearing "I had to do a double take to believe that wasn't real".

If you guys who KNOW this stuff feel like I'm doing ok, and folks who aren't of this world think I'm doing ok, I guess I'm doing ok 

Maybe I'll put that imposter syndrome to bed. hmm...

That's exactly how I feel about that car. I was hesitant to share the photo, since it's somewhat of a case of better off not knowing!
It is such a cool car tho, I do like those old Roundhouse patch jobs. And your subtle grime weathering job is top notch!

It's ALSO interesting seeing that it still had its roofwalk too. Oh well, I ain't sweating it. I have enough projects to keep me busy...

I've just got more questions now. Who changed the reporting marks? Did the Lehigh Valley buy the car from the Pennsy? That's the only thing that makes sense, because Conrail changing the reporting marks from one constituent to another just for funzies would be bizarre.

Yes, that's a Pennsy car. They got some hand-me-down locomotives in the early 1970s too. Remember, Pennsy owned a significant amount of Lehigh Valley stock, so there was a relationship there.

Oh, wow, what an interesting car! So former Pennsy (I knew it looked familiar...that CUSHIONED CAR lettering is pretty unique) that was sold to the LV, who added the LV flag logo. And now--since the photo was taken in 1983--it's Conrail.

Sort of a perfect microcosm of early Conrail!

Yep, the RS-11 "Blisters". Big Mike talked about how the Pennsy, when asked to help out, gave the Valley the junk they didn't want or stuff that was ridden hard and put away wet. The LV was in such a state that they weren't in a place to say no to any form of help, gift horse mouths and all that...

Thoroughly enjoying having the layout operational for a little while and considering what the next big thing I'm going to tackle is.

That said, I'm currently on vacation and started playing around with signaling in JMRI to understand it a bit better. So maybe that'll be the next big thing (anything to avoid modeling downtown York, lol).

Absolutely, and the couple things I have tackled so far haven't met my expectations, so I'm taking my time.
