The Dymo label maker gives it that 1985 groove.

Thanks! That's the hope.

It snowed in York this weekend.

We started off here.

Opened up a tub of fun.

And ended up here.

I think it might be almost time to get some actual scenery done!

My unsolicited advice is to pre-color the spackle before you put it down. A little earth-colored acrylic goes a long way. That way if it chips or sloughs off, it doesn't suddenly look like White Sands.

I did the spackle thing for a bit and then went back to using
Ground Goop
. My ground goop is a mixture of Scupltamold, Hydrocal, and earth-colored paint.

To each his own of course!

Looks like it’s two-to-two on the lightweight spackling (Ed and me) versus ground goop (Ian and Dr. Hotballz) stance.  ;)

I'm a Spackle guy but it can be pre-colored easily enough too.

I'm in Dr. Hotballz camp, although usually with added ordinary plaster instead of hydrocal. And I usually use dry dyes instead of paint, although I will occasionally use paint. So, a variation on ground goop.

Ditto on the “ground goop” camp, except mine is a mix of latex paint, water and a paper mache product called Celluclay.

Buy the bag of lightweight joint compound. Buy a bag of the paper blow in insulation. Mix together and add water and color.

Or... just buy the tub of lightweight spackle and get on with your day.

Sure, it's not colored, but it's usually applied quite thinly, and there's often a layer of paint above it.

I've come down on the side of simplicity and ease of use. I haven't seen any reason so far to change what I'm doing.

I think this may be a "Perfect is the enemy of Good" scenario. Coloring it is Better but if that prevents any actual work getting done we all lose out.

Plus, I'm not stirring up a whole tub of the stuff. That just seems so silly.
