LOL, this video showed up in my feed today and I was trying to figure it out. I think it's a post-earthquake (or during earthquake) scene, the way the vehicles are positioned.

Dealing with 20' of printed backdrop is a big pain in the a$$ (as I'm climbing up the learning curve). Note to self, for the next revision, cut it to height FIRST.

Anyway, here we go. The "Windsor St Scene v2" installation.





It yields photos like this.

Like I said, this is v2. There will be a v3, so I'm not stressing about the ragged top. I'm working on building up a backlog of things to address in the image and will print and install at least one more revision before all is said and done. That's the reason I got the printer: doing these iterations would've been prohibitively expensive if I had gone the commercial printer route.

Coming along real nice, Ed.  If you have the space, some judiciously placed billboards and/or interstate signs around the bridge near the backdrop (in addition to deleting a couple of trees) may also provide some camouflage or distraction where the bridge meets the backdrop.

Ed, what kind/weight of paper are you using?  I ask as I'm surprised that there are "bumps and wrinkles".  Is it only because it's temporarily hung?  Do you plan to glue the final version to a flat backing material of some sort?

It's looking excellent by the way.

Ed, the angles and perspective on the backdrop are very effective!  I have shied away from using photo backdrops, in the past, but now you have me thinking.  I will probably go this route in a few years, when I dismantle The Housatonic RR as we downsize and move to in a southern direction.

I'm in for helping when you make the leap. I'm working on an article on how I do it, and I'll be happy to share a copy with you if you want to explore the option.

One interesting thing with these is that you're also able to retrofit them. As long as you have a slice of space between the edge of scenery and your current backdrop you can shimmy some paper in there.

There might be something heavier, and I should probably check it out.
This is all mounted with rolled up masking tape. I'll probably go with proper double sided tape when the time comes to do the final installation.

One of the BIG reasons for the wrinkles was my process of wrestling it up there. I made a "measure twice, cut once" mistake, twice, with this version.

I thought the paper was 22", it's not. It's 24". As a result I had too much up top. I had hoped that'd let me have a coved crown, but it didn't work out like that. The process of sorting that out caused all sorts of issues, and most of the wrinkles.

That won't happen next time, so the wrinkles shouldn't be present. I hope.

There is one thing I will say about this: wrestling an 18' long piece of paper is NOT easy. I couldn't have done it without Terri's help, and I owe her quite a bit of thanks for getting this up there.

Get a roll of vinyl and spray mount it.  Use a roller to firmly attach it and work out the bubbles.  Tape of any sort will just make you sad.
You could also go to a proper print shop and pay someone to drymount it to a series of panels.  With a little overlap in the images the seams can be... well, seemless.

Ed, being a photography guy and print guy (though not in your size, only up to 13x19), 24# is too light for that size.  20# is typically "copier paper" to give a comparison.  I would look for something at least 28# or heavier.  The extra cost is the paper only.  You will use the same amount of ink. 

I don't know any off the top of my head since I don't buy rolls.  Check Epson or Canon.
