Seen this pop up in my YT feed today.
Ultimately, this SD40 was renumbered by CSXT from 7596 to 8438 and 4621. A little research found that the Georges Creek Ry. owns several former WM locomotives, including this one. That road must have renumbered it to its original number. Not sure why it’s in the deadline with CSXT locos, but more research shows that the GCK may be shutdown. There’s no winners here. DFF
One thing that I learned from that video is that whatever paint they used on those SD70MACs in the 4700 series, well, that experiment failed. They’ve faded down to closer to a Conrail color than CSXT.It makes me sad to think that many of those locomotives may never see service again. But, I love how there’s still so many second generation engines in there that survived as long as the much newer locomotives that should have replaced them but are parked there, too.DFF
