One thing that I learned from that video is that whatever paint they used on those SD70MACs in the 4700 series, well, that experiment failed.  They’ve faded down to closer to a Conrail color than CSXT.

It makes me sad to think that many of those locomotives may never see service again.  But, I love how there’s still so many second generation engines in there that survived as long as the much newer locomotives that should have replaced them but are parked there, too.

May as well just scrap them. The scavengers will have them picked clean in no time.

Sad, but, at 3:57 in the video is an SD40 numbered as 7496 and in an early CSXT paint scheme.   This stuck out to me for a couple of reasons, most, because those SD40s (this was a WM unit) were renumbered in the Chessie years to the 7500 series by adding 100 to the road number to mesh with the C&O SD40 roster that was under the Chessie banner as well.  Ultimately, this SD40 was renumbered by CSXT from 7596 to 8438 and 4621.  A little research found that the Georges Creek Ry. owns several former WM locomotives, including this one.  That road must have renumbered it to its original number.  Not sure why it’s in the deadline with CSXT locos, but more research shows that the GCK may be shutdown.  There’s no winners here.  :(

Give them time :D  Gerald has something in the works for the railroad.  Also the Verso paper plant in Luke that GCK switched is currently in discussions to be purchased by a logging company, nothing can be completed until the paper machines are removed from the property.  As for the loco, he last said they are in discussions to have some work done to it and after that is done, it will be moved to paint shop and the GCK property in the future

Saw a scene similar to this in Cumberland in the early 80’s.  Back then it was 1st generation Chessie units.

Well if its any consolation, I imagine a good amount of those 4 axles will filter into shortlines, if not in one piece at least keeping the others well stocked with spares for a couple more decades.

That factory EMD paint, looks like most were not repainted
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.
