New roadnames on existing tooling.  The only significant news is the PRR prototype ore car is coming in N in PRR black, PRR Oxide, CP Rail, SP, UP,  and DM&IR.
No AMTRAK....  :D

The Bachmann car is a Southern Pacific prototype.

They do have a new 100 ton hopper with a somewhat vague prototype in the mix. Priced to empty your wallet ()

Jason-
You are correct...an SP prototype.   PRR is a stand-in.
I disremembered the MDC Roundhouse car as being PRR....it was also SP.

I was looking around MBK’s website, and I saw the Bachman 100 ton hopper car listed (NOT FOR SALE YET / out of stock) for a street price of $29 with a Holiday 2020 delivery.  Good discount, but still too expensive IMHO.  I am still interested in these as they look to be a good match for the Reading class HTG / Conrail class HR1D hoppers. Those Reading cars, easily identified by their large RDG reporting marks, lasted for years in original paint.  Many lasted until the split untouched.  Highball Graphics makes an N scale decal set for these Reading cars too.  Thanks.

Jeff

The Bachmann model (assuming that it is a scaled down version of their existing HO model), is actually a better match for the Conrail H1D (clones of N&W H12 class). The HO version is a little short in terms of overall length, so I expect the N version will be as well.

Looks like a newly tooled gp38-2... With the Atlas model being a gold standard for N scale locomotives its gonna be a tough sell...

I'm lucky my kid is now 12.   If these had come out five years earlier, I'd be knees deep in them.

The M551 on the depressed center flat is interesting.  It's not listed as being sold separate and I am not even sure if it's new, but it's nice to have some prospects for 60s and 70s era armor for flat car loads.  You modern guys have been getting all of the fun lately.

If you have a look under N Scale Steam you'll find that there are now only 2 offerings for Santa Fe (the 2-6-2 and the 0-6-0  ). Seems the AT & SF are out of favor with Bachmann! More for other modellers!

I don't think either of those is remotely close to Santa Fe prototype (but as I re-confirmed the other day on another thread, where I said something similar- the easiest way to get a photo of what you think doesn't exist, is to say it doesn't exist on the Railwire), other than wheel arrangement.  2 fewer foobies from Bachmann doesn't bother me.  Who knows, maybe this ATSF hiatus means that they are re-tooling the 4-8-4, the only N model steam I can think of based on ATSF prototype.

Yeah, but you know what? A good entry level "most common locomotive everywhere" is a GREAT thing for the scale.

The thing that bugs me about this is that they didn't do the no-brainer modern schemes: CSX Boxcar, NS Horsehead, BNSF Wedgie and UP (the same as forever).

It's like the same thing with train sets. There's no reason train sets need to be "stupid". Give people stuff that might be fun but also stuff that'll still be useful for them as they advance their interests.

So like, no more 40' no prototype gons with BNSF 38-2s.

Sure, it's cool they're doing CSX, but why the oddball scheme? I'd get it if it was the FIRST google image result, but the one they used for that (which does show up in a cursory search) is still buried behind the far more common schemes.

Ed, it would help if they didn't want Atlas prices for their stuff too.

Life Like had this market hit with their locomotives, and honestly a lot of Atlas Trainman rolling stock cover this too.

I guess I don't see the need for an Atlas price loco (that will probably have a glaring error of some sort) with train set quality cars in super foobie paint schemes at high end prices.
