As per JC I too look forward to getting my hands on these nano sound decoders.
Will they be a challenge to get them in some n scale locos? Probably, but on the face of it this looks to be less challenging than the v4 micro.

If anything, it might get everyone using these nano soldering stations to work on the v5 decoder.

The 73199 replacement, ESU 58721 is in stock now at Streamlined Backshop.  I got the invoice for my pre-order from Bryan on Thursday.  The web site was updated today.  Currently 147 in stock  :o

https://store.sbs4dcc.com/ESU58721LokSound5MicroDirectNMRADCCSoundDecoder-Atlas-InterMount.aspx

No Nanos in sight though.

Apparently also in stock now at Yankee Dabbler

The USPS brought me a surprise today, a package from ESU with a 58721 in it! I got it as a warranty replacement for a 73100 where a component fell off (of course, after I had used/sold all my remaining supply).

Here are first pictures

Will require some frame milling to fit in this Atlas GP15 (which is why I was using the 73100 vs 73199)

There are 10 LEDs on this decoder!

Yeah, Matt said in the Train Show video that there were three on the underside, front and back.  They are supposed to be independent.  Any sign of that in the documentation that comes with?  If so, that should make it a lot easier for NS style front and back alternating ditch lights.

On the top, there is F0F, Aux 3 at the front of the decoder; F0R and Aux4 at the rear
On the bottom front (left to right)  Aux5, Aux 1, Aux 6
On the bottom rear (left to right)  Aux 8, Aux 2, Aux 7

The 6 pads on the underside front give you U+ (center front), and the 5 non-resistored outputs for the front lights.  I couldn't, easily, figure out the three pads at the rear.

In checking out the ESU site for information, I noticed they had posted the Engish version of the new LokSound instruciton manual on 4/1/2021. It's V10 now and it has the layouts for the new decoders.  Same illustrations as the German version, but at least it's all in English

http://www.esu.eu/en/downloads/instruction-manuals/digital-decoders/  (sorry, no direct link to the PDF)

Instruction manual for LokSound 5 family. Suitable for the following decoders:

    LokSound 5 micro
    LokSound 5 micro DCC Direct
    LokSound 5 micro DCC Kato
LokSound 5 micro DCC Kato USA
    LokSound 5 Nano

Curious, no wiring diagram for the Nano, and on the long Kato board, the front/rear lights are on Aux1/2, not HLF/HLR

The Nano is there at the top of page 27.  Right above the diagram for the LokSound 5 FX with 21MTC interface.

It's the same diagram as was complained about in the German manual for hiding the length of the board. It shows the Nano with the connector board attached.

Missed it, oops.  And looked 3 times

Wonder what those other pads on the bottom of the connector board are for.

Maybe one of those pads is GND?  It looks like there are three caps on the top side of the board that might be for keep-alive, but wondering if ESU made attaching an external keep alive any easier . . .

I was able to get my hands on an ESU 58721 decoder recently. I tried it out on an Atlas SD35 that was analog prior.
Some photos:

In the packaging.

It comes with speaker wires! This is extremely helpful to me and a huge plus in my book.

Top.

Bottom.

Included schematic.

Installed.

With shell. No additional light bleed or any unforseen light leakage with a current run shell and the forward headlight (F0).

Nor the rear headlight (F0).

I took the time to figure out the other 3 pads on the underside of the board this morning, for the 58721

[ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Sorry about the small text labels. The red labels are the LEDs, the blue are what each pad are.   So, of the 9 pads, there is U+, F0F, F0R and Aux 1-6.   All the function outputs are before resistors.

Strange how ESU does not call those out those pads in their manuals.  I guess I'll have to pick one of those up to see how they are made.
I'm also happy that they used larger size LEDs for those who want to unsolder those and mount them remotely (using the on-board resistors).
