Phrozen Sonic Mini 4k

No going to download Lychee tonight to create my first file.  Hopefully print tomorrow.  I need to make sure everything is adjusted and ready to go. The plan is to go through the growing pains this weekend.

I also need to measure the volume of my vat so I don't overmix my resin.  Going to create a CAD model of the vat to measure the volume there.  I don't want to guess.

First batch will be Siraya: 80% fast and 20% tenacious once I know the overall volume.  I may print the test file first.

The volume of the vat is irrelevant. You need to mix your resin outside of the vat. For really big prints, you may need to refill on the fly and you don't want to be mixing in air bubbles in the middle of a print.

I've never filled mine up to even the max fill line. I usually keep it about half or less because filling it deep gets resin up around the build plate mounting brackets and makes it more of a pain to clean between prints.

Alright @Chris333 looks like this car is a REALLY good model to test print with. I have some overexposure going on here so I will try another print but I think my previous models were sharper (those were the ones printed without the Nintendo Switch Glass).

3 had the filled in roof walk fixed and a few other holes opened up.

Ohhh it has a 2 in it. Thats makes more sense why they’re so different! I was starting to get concerned i was making things worse.

Still haven't gotten mine back together, but I was using the heck out of my Photon this weekend.  I thought something was wrong with it at first, I woofed the FEP on THREE vats in succession.  But I'd made the mistake of changing how I support the parts I print and everything was letting go and sticking to the FEP.  Took three wasted FEP's to convince me to go back to the old method...  I guess I'm a moron, but all is well now!

If the Mini-4K can print better than the Photon does, I won't likely need another printer for some time.  I'm pretty chuffed with the Photon after this weekend!

I made a template for a brace around the Z rail following what you did. Figured I bought that blade for my saw I might as well use it. But I need to order some 1/8" aluminum sheet. I have the L angle you used.

@JeffB what tool do you use to create the supports?  Have you tried Lychee yet?  I think it is very intuitive.

For the detail parts I print, I've been adding them manually in Solid Works.  It allows me 100% control over where they're located, diameter, taper, etc...  It works well for me, but I'm only doing it this way for small details.  Mostly things like stake pockets, brake details, car body bolsters and things like that.

I have done it for larger things too, but mostly just the small stuff.

For everything else I just use the software that came with the Photon.  I've got a copy of Chitubox, but never loaded it.  Haven't had the need for it.

But I will load and use the software that came with the the Mini-4K.  I can see the benefits of being able to manipulate things like lift speed, distance, etc...

I get it @JeffB my Photon is driving me mad as well.


My progress. I have reprinted the new arm and I will be installing it next. That's the last thing to do before I really print some things. I need to reprint the stock car Chris sent me. It's a really good test print.


The Mini 4k software is Chitubox as well. They're all the same board thus the same software. Lychee is a new program in town and I haven't delved very deeply into it yet.

No update, but have been using the printer all night. Even though I made the clip to use as a drip hanger for when prints are done. There is barely enough room to even tip the print head up on end without me smacking into the upper part of the machine. And man the whole thing out in the open design sure is messy. It feels like so many steps backwards.

They need to make an OG Photon with a stronger UV light along with a 15 micron pixel screen

That is my only complaint with the Mono X. Lifting the lid on and off and the inability to flip the build plate on its side and let it drip like my Photon S. The build plate is much more secure but that pyramidal socket on the S just made it so easy to let drip.

Just got notice my dead pixels are not covered by warranty according to Phrozen. I am so pissed. This is the worst tech buy I’ve ever made at this point.
