Besides the print head flexing it looks like the thin cross section where the lead screw goes through it may also be a problem (saying all this without holding a printer in my hands). I wondered if the real fix would be bolting a whole Photon head to the Phrozen slide bearing.

It was a simple troubleshooting matrix I did to realize that Phrozen knows there is a z-axis issue and they had been deleting or shutting the comments off for the posts that spoke into the issue. Unlike the Photon forum which has Anycubic as a guest and not an admin the Phrozen forum is managed by Phrozen. In the Anycubic FB page those post deletions can’t happen and as a result there is a crazy robust and helpful group of folks centered around a specific machine. The Phrozen forum is more for customer service.

I don't really see an either/or debate here.  I think the choice of technology depends on what your application is and what suits your work flow.  In my case - at least in the short term - I am primarily interested in small functional parts that help me improve the standardization and reliability of my models without degrading their appearance.  In almost all cases, my are parts designed to fit on existing models where design tweaks and improvements are going to be inevitable as the part develops, so a fast turnaround is very helpful.  I might feel differently if I were to design a new model from scratch, where the designer controls everything and the build footprint is much larger.

I can't really comment on Shapeways since the only parts I have purchased from them were printed 4-5 years ago.  At the time they were fairly crude, but that could have easily changed.   That said, I love the concept of a 3rd-party that is willing to handle the actual printing and distribution of parts & models to the community, regardless of technology.  I'm certainly not able to do that myself.

@GaryHinshaw , forgive my outburst on your thread. I have removed them so as not to fuel further discouse on your thread. I am fully behind and applaud everything everyone has done on their own with their own money and their own time. It’s just another labor of love that fills yet another niche in this hobby.

Truthfully, I am somewhat jealous and wish I had thes tools at my disposal.

Your fix idea was exactly what I was thinking - add a z axis from the Photon with dual rails.


But yeh I think you’re on the right track. I honestly think the z-nut acting as a pivot point is the design issue. Thats a single nylon nut and the front peel forces makes the nut a fulcrum. It should be fixable.


The deleting post thing is really bad customer service tactic. This post has enough comments that we’ll see if it gets shut down as well.

Finally got around to watching the calibration video. Not sure why I didn't think of that before because I do it with coreldraw on every new install or new monitor. There is a monitor calibration that works works very similarly on CorelDraw that I use because I will do a lot of actual tracing of drawing by placing them on my monitor and drawing behind them when working on graphics or logos. One more thing to play with now.

Interesting.  I do this, but in reverse.  I scan drawings or even actual models on my flatbed scanner, at different resolutions (ranging from 150 to 600 dpi), depending on my specific need.  Flatbed scanner is accurate in preserving dimensions. I then import those scans (bitmaps) into Corel draw, placing it in a   I call "Bitmaps" in Corel Draw. That layer is below the layer I draw the artwork on. That way I can draw/trace directly over the scanned drawings or models.

I'm trying to spread non biased real information from others (so those pics were from others users). There is the same z-axis issue that exists on the SM4k as the photon machines. Good news though, the fix will be similar (and that I've done it once already)

No worries at all @Lemosteam .  I certainly wasn't offended, and I actually regret that you deleted your post.  It's always good to have substantive input from experienced modellers - that is exactly the point of TRW.  (Feel free to repost it, if you like.)  In that regard, I need to give another shout out to @C855B for printing the searchlight signal heads that started me down this path, and for recommending the Photon Mono as my entree to the field.

Oh, and you should be jealous.  These tools are amazing!

I have received mine but there appears to be bugs in the way it levels its bed. This thing wasn’t ready for prime time.

What bugs? You mean the tape around the screen?
