N scale Y6B

I see BLI is doing their Y6B in HO again. When do we see one in N.  All we have it the old one put out by many in 60's standards.   I have three all from different productions. They run so so and very noisy.  As of now I'm waiting to receive the Bachmann 4-6-4 J3.

I've got the Rivarossi N Y6b on my workbench, maybe they are waiting for me to finish wasting my time trying to upgrade the motor, flanges, pickup, etc.

Actually, it is.  Who does make one, in N scale, available today?

I have one of the old MRC models, the ones made by Bemo(?) in Swizerland.  It's the best running steam I have, slow, smooth, and quiet.  Modeling the BN, I have no need for one, but my father loved steam, so I bought it, as a teenager.

I would be happy with another run of the Lifelike/Walthers/Atlas Y3. I have a couple B&O mallet that I want to make and Y6's are too big. I have a second run w/sound and it is absolutely the best running steam I have, hands down.

2-8-8-2 options...
MRC - 70's tooling best of the old school
Rivarossi/Atlas/ConCor - 70's tooling, garbage motors (except the very last Con-Cor run), half axle pickup everywhere, zamac disease candidates.
Atlas/Samangosa - never ran right from day one. 30+ years old.
Lifelike/Walthers - first run, no traction, second run was a gem.

I will take either a Lifelike rerun or a new Y6 with a real motor and actual axle bearings not just slots in Zamac, both would be very welcome.
. @draskouasshat if you think 70's tooled Y6's are acceptable compared to today's equipment......well......, no comment.

I would love for someone to make a  Y6B with modern tooling. The only question as far as I'm concerned is why they haven't done so. BLI seems to have a headstart with their HO runs. I love their HO promo video where I counted 21 hopper cars filled with quarters being hauled by their HO locomotive effortlessly at crawling speeds. Ken goes on to say it could have pulled more but they stopped with that. It would be a sight to see these behemoths of an era gone by pull long strings of coal laden hoppers !

With a little modeling, you can bring the Y6b up to current standards but that's probably asking too much since no one seems to do that anymore.
My point is, that's a pretty good list of N&W mallets and steam for that matter youve listed minus the bmann J. There's enough N&W steam floating around. Why more? It's time manufacturers start expanding.

None of those have been available in at least 10 years most over 30. Show me where I can go buy one right now setting in a shop or on a shelf. I will not spend a dime on old/used Rivarossi stuff, I have wasted too much on frames that are rotting away right now. I have probably 30 various Rivarossi/Atlas loco's in my collection. Any more it takes buying 3 to make one good one and not one of them will ever run as good as their modern counterpart.

I scratch build steam, detailing one of these is no big deal, getting one to run like a modern Athearn Big Boy or Lifelike/Walthers Y3 will cost more than the loco is worth and more than the price of the new loco. With motorman gone, that price has now tripled.

 He is a great scratchbuilder and kitbasher, and expects everybody else to be even half as good as he is.  Still he wants his 3800 class.

Awwww i guess I'm not supposed to have an opinion about a manufacturers choice of models? My apologies for saying something!
I might have built a few things myself as peteski has pointed out but yes, i think we're well past due for some actual santa fe steam and it's bullshit that we keep getting regurgitated crap over and over again in N. I don't care what it is, just build something new for once.

Opinion is one thing, disparaging others wants is another.  I'm happy for any new steam that I can put to use, no matter what the road is. I'm not complaining that Bachmann brought out the Hudson even though I have no need or use for them. I'm happy for the NYC guys that get to replace their 40 year old Kato/Concor units that are more than likely at the end of their life right now.

I model B&O, there has been a grand total of one accurate B&O steam model made, the Bachmann EM-1, maybe two if you count the ancient Bachmann Docksider. I never expected an EM-1 and was half way to bashing one out of Big Boy parts when the Bachmann rep told me I should stop working on the the EM-1 and concentrate on something else. About $300 worth of parts down the drain, but I now have a fleet of EM-1's. Lot's of stand ins are needed, B&O didn't use USRA loco's to fill it's fleet so I have to build what I want. Anything that a manufacture brings out that makes it one step closer to making what I want, is OK with me.

I'd love to see your Santa Fe Class built because it might make life easier for me to build these.



Broadway has done 3800's in HO, it's been 7 years since they have ran them. Almost their entire catalog has been re-run twice since they were released. It doesn't bode well for them coming to N scale.
