Downtown business parking (weekday)

Seeing if this scene seems too crowded for a small (10K+ pop.) town main street, early '50s.  I haven't laid out the exact spacing for the angle parking. Wondering if the spacing/width of the two traffic lanes is adequate. The area was rebuilt after a fire destroyed the downtown in the early 1900's, and the planners wanted a wide main street. However vehicles now are much bigger than than, so I'd like to have a little of "this doesn't quite fit" look to the scene.


Here's a view of a smaller town with a wide street. Not as much traffic but still lots of parked cars.


If anybody's got a similar pic of this kind of scene let's see it.

It seems a little tight for spacing to my eye.  Maybe on the lower section of the street by the grade crossing have all of the cars on both sides of the street parallel parked to see how that compares to the photo.  I think the number of vehicles on the lower section may be a good amount or maybe open up a few parking spots on the top section.

I think it's a little narrow, but in the top section I think the angle of the parked cars looks a little off. 
I think closer to 45 degrees would be more appropriate.  That'd open up a little room.

I have definitely seen streets that cramped for width.  But, they either had parallel parking on both sides or even no parking on one side.  When things were that tight due to old streets closely lined with old buildings that a city did not want to tear down to widen the streets, they typically limited parking, and diagonal was the first thing to go.

Street seems a little narrow especially for on bias parking. It might work if only parallel parking.

My grandparents house that my dad grew up in is in the lower right hand corner and my great grandparents house is catty corner across the street from the hardware store in the upper center of the photo. The angle parking appears to be about 45 degrees.

That is a nice photo!  I didn't realize they had drones back then too.

Probably a water tower was the stand-in for the drone in those days.

Exactly... good guess. Not sure of the date of this photo, but the traffic light (1 of 2 in town) is visible and the Hudson auto dealership loos active, so I’m guessing 1940’s.

My mother (grew up in Arizona) always said catty corner, but when we moved to Texas, I started hearing kitty corner. Obviously some regional differences.

I grew up in Sacramento and reside in the PNW and Kitty Corner is all I've heard but I think Merriam recognizes both.
