Got another 3 signal masts completed:

This batch includes the first dual-head mast, a build that was made vastly easier by using thin-walled stainless tubing for the mast, making the chore of threading 8 LED leads a breeze.   Now if only I could put them to work in an ops session...

After a layoff of some months (due to work), I am back to adding scenery on the CSX Cumberland Division.  Details in the Layout Engineering thread, but after modeling Duffields, WV, I have started on Shenandoah Junction.  Attached are photos of two buildings at the Junction, and then of the scene with work in progress.  Next up is the section on the other side of the tracks so that I can install the bridge.

Much work on the Colorado Midland version 2.0 in N scale...

Saloon from Wild West Scale Models for Aspen. The young boy looking in the window has been sent by his mother to retrieve his father...again.

I scratchbult a model of an actual structure that stood in Aspen for many years.  Plans were available online but I did have to create a custom decal.  As much as my model of the Colorado Midland is essentially a fantasy, I like that this structure will help anchor my caricature of Aspen, CO in real history.  It's 100% styrene except for the paper metal roofing from Wild West Scale Models.  I weather the roofing with spray primers and an alcohol wash.

Then it was time to get of the proverbial pot and put roadbed down.  Roadbed is installed for the lower track loop. Much of the far right corner will be excavated for a large trestle 5” in height representing the Hagerman Trestle on the east approach to Hagerman Pass on the Colorado Midland.

And then the first rails went down today.

Most of the CMRy’s current roster is seen here. I have more than a dozen kits yet to build, paint, and decal.

Added another “layout ready” locomotive set to the fleet. Sound courtesy of our own Rick Brodzinsky, Lokpilot 5’s in the A’s, Loksound 5 in the B unit. 13x18 mm tablet speaker in a custom enclosure. Still needs some details and a weathering job, but good enough to run now. More on my LA Division layout thread...

Dave V - the roof looks great - you said it was paper?  Did it come with the kit?  I've got to try it!

Gone way too long without a working airbrush. Pushing myself to finish scenery on a layout at least once before getting distracted again.

This was a fairly quick project. I used Circus City's decals for both the trailer and tractor with a little painting on the side skirts to match the real trucks. I've liked the look of Marten's trucks since I was little so this will probably be the first of many I'l end up doing.

This came up in the F40PH thread.

My nearly complete F40PH-2C by MK. This started as two LL F40PH shells spliced and detailed to match the HEP generator equipped engines. The shell is mounted to a modified B32-8 chassis which is very close to the prototype truck centers.

The shell is reinforced with strip lead. It's heavy... Very heavy. Knowing how bad inside bearing trucks roll, I'll need a lot of weight.

There are issues... The Q fans are not recessed as on the prototype. The fuel tank, battery boxes and air tanks are phoned in and not totally correct. Finally the cab lacks the unique square cab side windows of the real thing.

The engine will get full Loksound treatment as there is plenty of room for a speaker. The current board is a placeholder to test the drive train while adding weight. Eventually the class lights will work.

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away
