LokSound 73100 problems

OK, here I go again.
Got a Kato SD70ACe, putting in an LokSound 73100 direct micro. Programmer will not detect decoder.
I have down loaded several sound files and I can’t even get past changing the address.
BTW this 73100 came packaged in box like the v-5 micro’s. Not on the card.
This is the second one I have tried.
If this decoder can tell it’s the wrong decoder for the sound file WHY CAN’T IT tell you what it is?
I have spent the last two hours trying different sound files and different selections (RETAIL SOUNDS, AMERICAN, ECT. )
All results are the same .
Any one used the 73100 that came packaged in the box rather than the cad packaging ?
Right now I am steaming disgusted!
I have three more units to do that will take the V-5’s. Hope there are no problems with them.

Is it possible that when the LokProgrammer states that the decoder is wrong type, maybe that is just  a default response, even if it doesn't see the decoder at all?  After all, an unresponsive decoder would be the "wrong" type for uploading a sound file to, right?  :)

If it is a factory-fresh decoder, it should respond (on regular DCC powered track) to short address 3.  If it is not, then there is something wrong with the decoder or with the installation.

For the SD70ACE, you should be uploading file #73825 (not 73325 or 73425) if using the 73100 board. Is that the file you're attempting to upload?

What happens is the programmer tells me that this decoder is not supported.
First decoder was installed into the loco, but I don’t think I did any thing wrong- not my first install with these.
Second decoder just has test leads-power in, motor connected and speaker. There are two AUX LED’s on board.
I also checked to see if there were any updates to the files I tried.

Yes that is what I have tried.  73825 is what I have been trying-also tried 74825

You can get that response when there is not good connection from the programmer to decoder. I just had a v4 wired. Where I soldered to connections. I guess a solder joint came loss even though the seemed solid. As soon as I hooked it directly to the programmer is connected and let me reprogram it. So maybe check to make sure the frame tab are tight to the decoder tab, if not most add a little solder.

Silly question, but are you opening LokProgammer 4 and not LokProgrammer 5 when attempting this?

A bad connection is not likely- I have soldered wires to the decoder with test clips from programmer.
I will go back and check just to be sure.
Yes , I am using the V-4 sound files, but just for kicks I did try the V-5 sound files too.

I don't mean the sound files, I mean the actual LokProgrammer program. I now have both LP4 and LP5 on my desktop and, while I haven't tried it, I'm assuming LokProgrammer 5 might not play nice with the pre V5 sound files and vice versa.

LP 5 handles the Select files just fine. Once ESU fixed the bugs, I haven’t had to use LP 4 anymore (still have it installed, of course)

Jerry, do you have anything connected to the motor pads in your set up?

OK, but does LP5 play nice with the 73100? It sounds like it does if I read your reply correctly.

OK, I am confused? LP-4 & LP5 ? When I bring up my programmer I have to select which sound files I want to work with.
So I far as I know I only have one programmer. Am I wrong?
What I done on the second decoder is attach wiring to the decoder via soldering short wires to the decoder board directly.
I have the two rail supplies, two go to the motor and two more that go to a good test motor and I did hook up a speaker.
The only test clips are from the programmer to the rail test leads- I will try a different test clip set up in the AM.
TOO beat to try tonight.
Thanks for the input.
BTW I just did a programmer software up date last week/ did not see anything new there .

Jerry, some of us kept the older V4 software installed. But I have had no problems using the latest version with the 73100.

Well new morning so I got an early start-
This is what I did this AM. Put my test set up on my work bench and checked the input connections- looked good but I removed them and then resolderred them to a different set of contacts on the board, then checked to see if I had a good connection on each one-all checked OK. I then hooked the two rail inputs to my Power Cab set to programming mode- then I entered the cab address- this was successful. I then called up the address on the PowerCab, sounded the horn, ran the motor all was good. Removed PC connection a moved to the programmer, down loaded the sound file, this time I did not try to enter the address, I just uploaded the file- it took. About 30 minutes later I was able to tweak the things I wanted and ran the motor sounded the sounds and was all good.
I violated a basic rule in my haste- I changed more than one thing at a time, so now I don’t really know what I did that made the programmer work in uploading the file- I will take a bit more time on the first decoder that gave me problems. See If I can’t pin point it.
