Matching a Loksound 5 and a LokPilot 5

Hey guys, so I consider myself a DCC Veteran now, But I am still a rookie with sound, and sound decoders.
I just upgraded one of my Kato F7AB sets to Loksound5 and Lokpilot5 decoders, using the WVD adaptor boards for both units. The install was probably one of the easiest, if not THE easiest installs I have ever done. Both locomotives are speed matched, and run really well, and are really smooth, But here is my problem:

When you throttle up the A units (Loksound) the throttle increases, and their is a delay before the locomotive starts moving, Just like prototype. The problem I am running into, I can't figure out how to make the B unit (Lokpilot) do the same, Delay the acceleration. Once they are moving, everything else matches up, acceleration, Deceleration, Speed, Everything. Hell, I even got their top speed dialed back to the prototype 65 mph for the freight units. It's just the delay for throttle run up.

I'm sure their is a CV or some setting I can adjust, But I am scratching my head trying to find it.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Yes, you can indeed delay the start of the LokPilot to match the LokSound. They call it a "virtual sound" delay. First question is, do you have a LokProgrammer?

From Dave Heap on the ESU LokSound group:

Quote from: Dave Heap
It's a setting (CV252) for startup delay delay time. In LokProgrammer it may present as a checkbox+slider. In DecoderPro it presents as a slider on the Advanced pane.

No, I am using JMRI, Interface is a Digitrax PR4...

I'm not a JMRI guy, so someone else will need to chime in on using that. Otherwise, you can adjust a CV setting as indicated by John's reply above. I haven't done this adjustment manually using CV's in a long time, so I can't recall the particulars with doing it that way.

Thanks for posting this, I have decoders on the way, facing pretty much the same situation.  :D

Here are the two relevant tabs in JMRI for the LokPilot

On the function map tab note row 4.  F8 turns on Virtual Sound (consist together and ensure F8 is active in consist)

Then, on the Sounds tab, at the very bottom, set the delay.  The value shown seems to work well with most of the sound projects

Thanks, I'll check it out, I am at work until tomorrow morning, so I will not be able to play with it until then.

Do they have to be consisted together for this to work? Right now they just share the same address.

If they share the same address, then it “works automagically”, since both see the same command

ok, guys, Problem 2, Forward, the delay is working on the b-unit, In reverse, the delay is not working, I'm fiddling with it still, but does anyone have ideas?

Not sure what decoder you have or what Function key you are using for Virtual Sound but - my LokPilot Nano's need both forward and reverse settings for F4 thru F7, just like F0 and F1.

I just looked at the instruction sheets for the 5 pilot.
I did not see a thing about what is called (drive hold).
I had worked with a 4,0 Select and LokPilot nano.
I had a hard time getting the pilot to match the delay of the micro select.
The V-5’s might be different.
A call to ESU,  might be in order?

I don't think Delamaize is talking about Drive Hold.  In my LokPilot Nano locos the Virtual Sound setting is related to the delay in normal starting.  I've matched the "Pilot" locos with loco having 73100 LokSound Select Direct Micro decoders.  Drive Hold is another matter, related to notching up to say 3, 4, etc. without the loco moving.

Take all this with a grain of salt from a LokSound newbie.

Hmmm...haven't ever noticed Virtual Sound only working in one direction. I'll need to ponder that one.

What I was looking for was the delay in starting to move.
With the selects V4 LocSound Micro the delay on start was not changeable, you had to work with the Pilot’s setting to match
You had to hit F-8 so both decoders would react to the throttle setting.
This was when using a LokSound Select Micro with a LokPilot nano.
Maybe the V5’s are different?
It takes a bunch of reading the manual’s and easy to over look .
Do some more research.
All I know that I had a real tough time getting the LokSound and the Pilot to run the way I wanted.
