Oh, man!  I haven’t used my photo of the Waffler in years.  Thanks, Ed!

Hey now, it's now waffling. I've built two layouts on those other there's already!

Anyway, here's Vivian sans her hooker makeup.

When it was first built it had the make-up, but yeah during use it all wore away.

I've never seen a photo of one of these in service with the striping. 1187 wears it because of its role in the World's Fair along with some period passenger cars.

Don't fret though, when I get a 4-4-0 to hang out with it, it'll definitely be keeping them.

Yeah it was restored back to original condition. When it was delivered it probably looked like this:

Hard to tell in a B&W photo, but there wheels and spokes are painted.

That's not an H3. It's an earlier class.

Great article!  It certainly argues against the H3 class wearing pinstripes in service, save for the one around the cab number.  The striping the 1187 wears today at the museum was certainly applied to some passenger locomotives according to my PRR books...but freight engines like the H3s were much less likely to be so adorned.

I'd given Ed guff offline for removing her whore makeup (historical or not, it looks sexy!) but now that he's done the deed, I think it looks better and more accurate.

I'm actually on the fence about the cab striping too. There's a bit of wood trim there and I THINK the photos are showing that instead of actual striping.

But I haven't made up my mind yet.

Lol, you know Chris, most other people wouldn't get away with such trolling... Hahahaha.

I had thought of that, and I think when I find another I might go all in on modernizing it into a 1910s version with the freight pilot, additional headlight and extra sandbox.

And then, ANOTHER future one might just become an 0-6-0.

Looks like it was about 50/50 on the pilots. What about the "PRR" on the tender, which era is that?

Maybe some brown on the cab roof?

The pilots were era dependent. As time went on they got the footboards.

I'm not sure when the PRR went away but I'm keeping it for now.

I was conversing with my Pennsy Bois about the roof. Some engines had brown roofs, some didn't, all the way up to the end of steam. But the consensus seems to be that black was more prevalent. Additionally if they didn't use brown when they tarted 1187 up it lends even more credence to it staying black.

The one thing I really wish I could do is find a properly sized tender.

This one is on for later "Lines West" engines but I like the smaller one. Originally MTH advertised them with those but I think they couldn't figure out how to cram all their DCS stuff in it.

MTH having trouble squeezing electronics into an O scale tender.

N scalers be like, “HAHAHAHAHA!!!  Let us show you how to do that with room to spare.”
