Anyone know the diameter of these wheels ? Stub axel diameter? My searches have been fruitless. Thanks!

In this picture they look like needle-point axles, not stub, but I don't know any more about them.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

By stub I'm referring to the stub opposite the Needle point that presses into the plastic axel.

I have both the pointy, and the flush axle wheels.  They are very nice.  Spokes are metal (part of the single piece wheel). Axles are standard axles Kato uses on their rolligng stock wheels (1mm?). I'll take some measurements later.

Thanks Peteski no rush think I'm going to order some. Haven't seen the flush yet. Those would be better for my application actually.

Cool.

I am curious about the effective diameter (1/160) - might be useful as pilot wheels on a steamer.

I have a Kato N scale 2-6-2t steamer with some sweet spoked pilot wheels. And all 10 wheels pick up power.

Since these wheels are all metal, those are probably the same as the ones in our loco (and they pickup power). I think this is the loco whose design was mentioned in the Kato's 50th anniversary book.  They touted the fact that the leading/trailing trucks pick up power.

Kato C12. I found mine for $70, now they all seem to be $200 plus.

The wheels above are some type of passenger equipment.

I have the 11-607 and 11-609.  There is also another set with flush-end axle. I believe that those all use the same wheels, just axle ends are different.

That was a sweet deal. I think that loco also uses a coreless motor.
Yes, these are retrofit wheels for Japanese passenger cars. Could you measure the diameter of the pilot wheels?  I suspect those are the same as discussed here.

Thanks very much Pete . So from what I see they should swap onto the Kato 104  power truck easy. Haven't found the non point pickup version but I can work with these. I'll have to machine the point off but have other modifications to do anyway. The only other one I found is the 11-608 and it's the same as the 11-607 but has a gear on the plastic axel.

You're right Tom - there is no flush-axle set available. I confused the geared (pointy axle) set for a flush-axle set.  And you're welcome.  :)

But assuming that the similar pilot wheels used on the loco Chris has use the same wheels, that wheelset has axles flush with the wheel face.

I got .219" on mine so probably the same with different axles. And these center muffs are shorter to leave room for the wipers to contact the axles.

Thanks Pete,

So same wheels (34.9") with different axle lengths:

Kato 11-607   0.517" axle length
Kato 11-609   0.560" axle length

Now gotta measure those pilot wheels on the loco to see if these are feasible. :D
